Kimia 1 (PNAP0133)

Kimia 1 merangkumi prinsip asas dan peraturan kimia. Topik termasuk struktur atom; teori kuantum dan struktur elektronik atom; hubungan berkala antara unsur-unsur; formula dan persamaan kimia; ikatan kimia: konsep asas, geometri molekul dan hibridisasi orbit atom; peraturan gas ideal, hukum Dalton tentang tekanan separa dan penyimpangan dari kelakuan gas yang ideal; daya antara molecular, cecair dan pepejal dari segi teori molekul kinetik, gambarajah fasa dan sifat fizikal larutan yang terdiri daripada jenis larutan, hukum Raoult dan sifat-sifat colligative; keseimbangan kimia: konsep keseimbangan dan keseimbangan pemalar untuk reaksi gas dan tindak balas dalam larutan serta prinsip Le Chatelier untuk kedudukan keseimbangan; asid, bes dan konjugasinya, pemalar untuk asid dan bes kuat serta lemah; garam, kesimbangan asid-bes dan keseimbangan keterlarutan. Menerusi komponen eksperimen makmal dan kuliah, kedua-dua kemahiran pemikiran kritikal dan penjelasan secara lisan dan bertulis akan diberi penekanan. Di samping itu, pembelajaran berasaskan masalah (PBL) dan perbincangan kumpulan kecil serta kaedah penyampaian akan dijalankan untuk membangunkan pelajar sains secara saintifik yang penuh keyakinan dalam dunia Kimia. Para pelajar akan dinilai berdasarkan prestasi mereka dalam kuiz, peperiksaan, laporan makmal, tugasan dan penyertaan dalam tutorial, perbincangan kumpulan dan pembentangan.

Chemistry I (PNAP0133)

Chemistry 1 covers the fundamental principles and laws of chemistry. Topics include atomic structure; quantum theory and electronic structure of atoms; periodic relationships among the elements; chemical formulae and equations; chemical bonding: basic concepts, molecular geometry and hybridization of atomic orbital; laws of ideal gases, Dalton’s law of partial pressure and deviation from ideal gases behavior; intermolecular forces, liquids and solid from the kinetic molecular theory aspect, phase diagram and physical properties of solution which consists of types of solution, Raoult’s law and colligative properties; chemical equilibrium: concept of equilibrium and equilibrium constants for gaseous reactions and reactions in solution as well as Le Chatelier’s principle for equilibrium position; acid, bases and their conjugates, constants for strong and weak of respective acids and bases; salt, acid-base equilibria and solubility equilibria.Throughout the laboratory experiments and lecture components, both critical thinking skills and oral and written expression will be emphasized. Besides that, problem based learning (PBL) and small group discussion as well as presentation method will be carried out in order to develop scientifically literate students who become more confident in Chemistry world. The students will be assessed based on their performance in quizzes, examinations, laboratory reports, assignments and participation in tutorial, group discussions and presentations.

Kimia II (PNAP0233)

Kimia II terdiri daripada kimia organik, elektrokimia, kinetik kimia dan termokimia. Kimia organik merangkumi pengenalan kimia organik, klasifikasi hidrokarbon, sifat karbon, isomerisme, aktiviti optik dan pengelasan jenis tindak balas organik. Ini diikuti dengan penamaan sebatian organik, sifat, penyediaan, tindak balas dan mekanisme tindak balas organik serta ujian kimia untuk menentukan kehadiran sebatian organik terpilih bermula dari alkana, alkena, benzena, alkil halida, alkohol, aldehid, keton, asid karboksilik, amina, asid amino dan polimer. Elektrokimia termasuk konsep tindak balas redoks, elektrolisis sebatian cecair dan larutan akueus, siri elektrokimia, sel elektrolitik dan galvanik, hukum Faraday, persamaan Nernst dan stoikiometri keseimbangan persamaan redoks. Kinetik kimia merangkumi jenis kadar tindak balas, persamaan kadar pembezaan, kadar tetap, hukum kadar, aturan tindak balas, mekanisme tindak balas, teori perlanggaran, faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kadar tindak balas, kimia nuklear dan separuh hayat. Sementara itu, termokimia terdiri daripada jenis tindak balas kimia, kalorimetri, jenis enthalpi, aturan Hess dan kitaran Born-Haber. Menerusi komponen eksperimen makmal dan kuliah, kedua-dua kemahiran pemikiran kritikal dan penjelasan secara lisan dan bertulis akan diberi penekanan. Chemistry II (PNAP0233)

Chemistry II consists of organic chemistry, electrochemistry, chemical kinetics and thermochemistry. The organic chemistry covers introduction of organic chemistry, classification of hydrocarbon, properties of carbons, isomerism, optical activity and determination of types of organic reaction. This is followed by naming of organic compounds, properties, preparation, reaction and mechanisme of organic reaction as well as chemical test to determine the presence of selected organic compounds starting from alkanes, alkenes, benzenes, alkyl halides, alcohol, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, amines, amino acids and polymers. The electrochemistry including concepts of redox reaction, electrolysis of molten compounds and aqueous solutions, electrochemical series, electrolytic and galvanic cells, Faraday’s law, Nernst equation and stoichiometry of balancing redox equation. Chemical kinetics covers type of reaction rate, differential rate equation, rate constant, rate law, order of reaction, reaction mechanisme, and collision theory, factors affecting reaction rates, nuclear chemistry and half-lives. Meanwhile, thermochemistry consists of types of chemical reaction, calorimetry, types of enthalpies, Hess’s law and Born-Haber cycle.
