CALL FOR APPLICATIONS  – GMSN Virtual Post-Doctoral Fellowship

The Global Malaysian Studies Network (GMSN) at the Institute of Ethnic Studies (KITA), or abbreviated as GMSN@KITA, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia is inviting applications for the GMSN’s inaugural virtual post-doctoral fellowship in Malaysian Studies. This fellowship will provide outstanding researchers with an opportunity to be mentored by academicians from renowned institutions for 3 months. The GMSN@KITA partner institutions are:

  • Australian National University
  • Goethe University Frankfurt
  • Lomonosov Moscow State University
  • Ohio University
  • Universitas Hasanuddin
  • University of Pennsylvania

GMSN@KITA strives to explain and provide a clearer understanding of Malaysia supported by strong empirical evidence. Our group in GMSN@KITA has a wide interest in Malaysian Studies from diverse fields. We actively encourage applications from Malay Linguistics, Anthropology and Sociology academic disciplines to apply.

The GMSN virtual fellowship will provide technical and academic support to candidates during the fellowship period to convert their Ph.D thesis into a book. GMSN@KITA will cover the cost of book publishing upon successful completion of the fellowship. Fellows are eligible for a RM15,000 honorarium over a 3 month fellowship period.

The candidates should have received their PhD within the last 5 years and currently attached to a Malaysian public university. Candidates are expected to have good command of the English language, written and verbally to benefit from the fellowship.

  • A resume
  • A Ph.D thesis summary (1 to 3 pages)
  • Best chapter from the Ph.D Thesis
  • Publication list
  • A letter of reference

All the application materials must be in English. To be considered for the GMSN Fellowship, please arrange for all materials to be submitted by noon on 9 December 2021 to us at gmsn@ukm.edu.my. Candidate selection will be through an international panel of reviewers and partner institution approval.
