Ahmad Ashrif A. Bakar is the Director of the Institute of Microengineering & Nanoelectronics (IMEN<\/b>), UKM, and a university lecturer in the Department of Electrical, Electronics & Systems. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Universiti Tenaga Nasional (2002), a Master’s degree in Communications and Network System Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia (2004), and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Queensland, Australia (2010). He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE<\/b> Member since 2002, Senior Member since 2012), the Board of Engineers Malaysia (Professional Engineer since 2013), and The Optical Society of America (OSA<\/b> Member since 2014, Senior Member since 2020). His research is dedicated to optical sensors<\/b> for a range of applications, including biochemical, biomedical instrumentation, and environmental monitoring. Specifically, he uses optical techniques like surface plasmon resonance and optical feedback interferometry. His recent research topics have included oil contaminant detection, fluorescent dyes, creatinine detection, and enhanced visualization using fluorescent carbon dots. He is also actively involved in engineering education, promoting STEM activities and career development to secondary school students. His accomplishments have been recognized with awards for professional excellence, best papers at optical conferences, and medals in research and innovation competitions. He also serves as a consultant to industries for product development. He is also involved in ongoing research projects, including ones focused on a portable surface plasmon resonance sensor and a modified carbon quantum dots optical sensor.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
