The examination begins with a general survey of their participation since Independence up to the introduction of NEP (New Economic Policy). A more detailed examination was undertaken on their involvement in the industry for the period during which the NEP was being implemented and their prospect for the post-NEP era. It was found that Bumiputera participation was generally small for the period before NEP but improved significantly after the policy was launched. It is believed that continuous intervention from the\u00a0 government is necessary to sustain present performance and improve future achievement.
