This phenomenon can create educational inflation if the net rate of return to education is negative. A total sample of 1,117 employees in Southern Peninsular Malaysia covering the states of Johor, Malacca and Negeri Sembilan were collected in a 2011\/2012 survey to test this phenomenon. The results show there is indeed a phenomenon of occupational mismatch in the labour market. The estimated results on this phenomenon based on modified income model of Mincer (1974) show that the rate of return to education has declined and being negative, which could translate into a potential of educational inflation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","tags":[1096,181,1095,174,1097],"jel-code":[],"article-type":[1329],"class_list":["entry","author-jem","post-3503","article","type-article","status-publish","tag-educational-inflation","tag-labour-market","tag-occupational-mismatched","tag-over-education","tag-rate-of-return-to-education","article-type-normal-article"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/jem\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/article\/3503","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/jem\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/article"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/jem\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/article"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/jem\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/article\/3503\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":5598,"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/jem\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/article\/3503\/revisions\/5598"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/jem\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=3503"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/jem\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=3503"},{"taxonomy":"jel-code","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/jem\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/jel-code?post=3503"},{"taxonomy":"article-type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/jem\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/article-type?post=3503"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
