Department of Chemical and Process Engineering\u00a0<\/span>offers\u00a0Bachelor Degree of Chemical Engineering<\/span>\u00a0since it was established in 1984,\u00a0when the faculty of Engineering was embodied in\u00a0Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

Chemical Engineering<\/span>\u00a0directly involves in\u00a0raw feed processing to produce valuable products<\/span>\u00a0especially if the processing involves\u00a0phase change, contain energy of the processed materials and\u00a0composites<\/span>.\u00a0Chemical, physical and mathematical principles<\/span>\u00a0which are the basis of Chemical\u00a0Engineering are used to understand the\u00a0chemical reaction process in a reactor and transport\u00a0process in a processing unit and separation<\/span>. Meanwhile the\u00a0economic and management principles<\/span>\u00a0are completing the Chemical Engineering Program.<\/span><\/p>

Biochemical engineering<\/span>\u00a0that routes from\u00a0fermentation industry<\/span>\u00a0uses\u00a0Chemical Engineering\u00a0principle in processing the biological and biochemical materials<\/span>. This field includes\u00a0microorganism breeding, enzyme usage as biological and biochemical process catalyst, and\u00a0design, optimization and process control for large scale biological and biochemical processes and\u00a0also process synthesis of commercial materials such as food, pharmaceutical products and\u00a0industrial biochemical products in general<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

Starting from the 2015 \u2013 2016 academic session, Chemical Engineering program has been\u00a0restructured where all Biochemical Engineering elements were combined in this program. This\u00a0was practicable in parallel to the\u00a0accreditation and industrial requirements that require graduates\u00a0to possess vast knowledge covering both fields<\/span>. It is also in line with the Chemical Engineering\u00a0program that is mostly offered by well-known universities worldwide.<\/span><\/p>

Apart from that,\u00a0educational program<\/span>\u00a0was also structured to allow students to obtain\u00a0vast and\u00a0deep exposure in design experience, industrial work and research<\/span>. At the end of the third year,\u00a0students need to undergo\u00a0practical training<\/span>. Research project is also conducted in semester VII\u00a0and VIII. In the final year, students need to complete\u00a0design project for the process plant<\/span>. Strong\u00a0basis as well as practical exposure are believed to produce competent engineers. Curriculum\u00a0structure was thoroughly planned so that the students would gain sufficient knowledge to\u00a0perform\u00a0Process Plant Design Project\u00a0<\/span>in Semester VIII. Students may use computer software\u00a0such as Aspentech\u00ae, iCON\u00ae and Superpro\u00ae to assist them in the Design Project.<\/span><\/p>

In 2004, the Faculty of Engineering & Built Environment UKM has pioneered a move to transform the undergraduate curriculum into Outcome Based Education<\/b> in accordance with requirements from the Board of Engineers, Malaysia and the Malaysian Qualification Framework<\/b> introduced by the Ministry of Higher Education<\/b>. In this approach, inputs from stakeholders are taken into account when reviewing the curriculum. As a result, there are courses in which their teaching approach have been changed the methods such as cooperative learning, student-centred learning and problem based learning<\/b>. This new curriculum was implemented beginning from the 2005\/2006 academic session.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

In this curriculum, based on inputs collected from the stakeholders, the faculty has developed the following Programme Educational Objectives in order to be achieved by the graduates several years after graduation:<\/span><\/p>
