Entry Requirements

A Master’s degree from The National University of Malaysia or its equivalent from any other recognized university


OR;

Any other qualification that is equivalent to the Master’s degree or experience recognized by the Senate.


OR;


*Candidates who are pursuing their Master’s degree in the University and approved by the Postgraduate Committee of the Faculty to be upgraded to the PhD programme with approval from the Dean.

**A Bachelor degree with first class honours or equivalent and have obtained CGPA of at least 3.67 from The National University of Malaysia or any other institution of higher learning recognized by the Senate and for international candidates, requirements for English Language is minimum 550 (TOEFL) or 6.0 (IELTS).

English Language Requirements
  • International students shall fulfil the English language requirements by obtaining a minimum score of 5.5 for IELTS or the equivalent of any examination that has been aligned to The Common European Framework of Reference(CEFR) as approved by the Senate.

  • An international student who fails to meet the English language competency requirements may be given a conditional offer as follows:
  1. Students are allowed to attend an internal English Preparatory Course at the University with a time limit of a maximum of two (2) years and subject to the regulations of the Malaysian Immigration Department in force; and
  2. International students pursuing an internal English Preparatory Course must sit for the IELTS or TOEFL, or MUET examinations or any CEFR-aligned examination to meet the English language competency requirements.

  • The list of examinations that has been aligned to the CEFR is subject to the list approved by the Senate and continuously updated.

  • The Faculty/Institute may grant exemptions to the conditions stated in sub regulations 5(1) and 5(2) to:
  1. International students originating from countries that use English as the official language; or
  2. International students who use academic qualifications from institutions that use English as the medium of instruction and intend to pursue higher studies at the University.

Requirements for Viva Voce

  • Doctor of Philosophy candidates need to fulfil the publication requirement as determined by the Faculty before thesis submission.


  • The course on Research Methodology (KKKF6003) is compulsory for Doctor of Philosophy candidates undertaking thesis/research.


  • International students must attend and pass the BahasaMelayu course as determined by the University.
