Komunikasi satelit biasanya digunakan di dalam industri penyiaran dan Internet. Hujan yang turun telah menyebabkan penghantaran isyarat terganggu, bahkan lebih teruk di kawasan beriklim tropika kerana menerima hujan yang lebat sepanjang tahun. Gangguan ini dinamakan pelemahan hujan. Gelombang isyarat pada frekuensi tinggi (melebihi 10 GHz) adalah sangat pendek, justeru ia mudah terganggu terutamanya ketika hujan lebat. Kewujudan tapak pendua dapat menyelamatkan isyarat daripada terus hilang. Ini kerana tapak pendua berbeza lokasi dari tapak utama, menyebabkan gangguan hujan yang diterima juga berbeza. Tapak pendua memerlukan kelengkapan yang serupa dengan yang utama, oleh itu, kos penyediaannya tinggi. Satu pengiraan untuk memilih tapak pendua yang paling sesuai telah diketengahkan di dalam buku ini, dinamakan LogKT bagi menjimatkan kos operasi. Formula pengiraan ini adalah berasaskan kepada pemerhatian terhadap bacaan isyarat yang diterima di Cyberjaya dan Rawang, Malaysia pada tahun 2014 hingga 2018, enam skim kepelbagaian tempat di Malaysia, Singapura dan Guam, USA, dan keupayaan formula terdahulu yang dibangunkan oleh Hodge, ITU-R, Panagopoulos, Semire dan Yeo. Keberkesanan LogKT telah ditentusahkan secara statistik mengikut aras piawaian ITU-R dan berupaya memberi cadangan yang berkesan kepada pemain industri dalam pemilihan tapak pendua.

Satellite communication is commonly used in the broadcasting and Internet industries. Rainfall can disrupt signal transmission, and this interference is even more severe in tropical regions, which experience heavy rainfall throughout the year. This disruption is known as rain attenuation. Signal waves at high frequencies (above 10 GHz) are very short, making them highly susceptible to interference, especially during heavy rain. The presence of a backup site can help prevent complete signal loss, as it is located in a different area from the primary site, meaning the rainfall interference it experiences will also differ. However, a backup site requires similar equipment to the primary one, making its setup cost high. To optimize operational costs, this book introduces a method for selecting the most suitable backup site, known as LogKT. This calculation formula is based on signal readings observed in Cyberjaya and Rawang, Malaysia, from 2014 to 2018, as well as six site diversity schemes across Malaysia, Singapore, and Guam, USA. It also incorporates insights from previous models developed by Hodge, ITU-R, Panagopoulos, Semire, and Yeo. The effectiveness of LogKT has been statistically validated according to ITU-R standards and has the potential to provide effective recommendations for industry players in selecting backup sites.
