Description:
Laterite soils are abundantly available in the hilly areas of Peninsular Malaysia. The use of laterite soil as an alternative sand or raw material for supporting sustainable development. In the construction industry, further investigation on geotechnical properties is needed. The general aims were to provide the physical, chemical and morphological properties sourced from Bandar Baharu District, Kedah and to explore those properties that go beyond the commonly considered ones. The soils were subjected to compaction efforts with energies spent including more than the modified Proctor with the specific aims of exploring the maximum strength and minimum permeability constant achievable by such effort. In addition, bentonite was also added as stabilizer. The idea is unlocking the secrets of this soil type and enhancing its properties for various applications.
