The Federated Malay States emerged as one of the richest protectorates in the British Empire, even contributing a warship named H.M.S Malaya. Although the First World War did not take place in Malaya, a trade war between Britain and its enemies, especially Germany, occurred in the Federated Malay States. This book also tells the story of financial mismanagement by colonial administrators amid the economic downturn that followed the war.
