Time domain multiplexing-based FBG sensor (TDM-FBG) has its unique advantages over other sensors in terms of multiplexing abilities and deployment reliability. However, the signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) of the FBG signals is limited by the injected pulse power characteristics. Code division multiplexing technique (CDM) was incorporated into the TDM-FBG technique to improve the SNR without impairing the system key specification. This book discusses the issues that remained at large within the literature of coded TDM-FBGs, including the improvement of measurement range, speed, sensitivity, and SNR. The unique properties of Golay complementary codes (GCCs) were utilized to improve the overall performance of TDM-FBG for static strain measurement. With the deployment of GCCs, analysis confirmed a 30% higher strain measurement range than the single pulse case, and the signal to noise improvement ratio (SNIR) of 9 dB.
