Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) is committed to developing clear ethical values, including diversity, honesty, respect, and fairness, as fundamental principles guiding its academic and administrative culture. These values are embedded into training programs at all levels of the organization, ensuring that students, faculty, and staff uphold ethical standards in their actions and decisions.

Through structured workshops, leadership programs, and professional ethics training, UKM fosters a culture of integrity, inclusivity, and responsible governance. By prioritizing ethical awareness, the university empowers individuals to contribute positively to society while maintaining the highest standards of academic and professional conduct.

1) UKM Top Management Madani Thought Leadership Programme (Karisma Pemikir Madani Pengurusan Tertinggi UKM)

16 August 2024, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) successfully organized the UKM Top Management Madani Thought Leadership Programme (Karisma Pemikir Madani Pengurusan Tertinggi UKM) program, an initiative aimed at fostering progressive and strategic thinking among UKM’s top management. The event took place at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (PWTC), bringing together key university leaders to engage in discussions, knowledge-sharing sessions, and strategic planning aligned with the principles of Madani governance and leadership. The program was designed to shape a nation-centric university, particularly in the context of UKM as a leading institution in higher education in Malaysia. This is a crucial step to ensure that UKM not only meets the current standards of higher education institutions but also drives excellence in academics, research, and community contributions.

2) Jati Diri Watan UKM Siri 6 2024 Program

16 February 2024: UKM has held the UKM Regional Identity Program Series 6 2024 (Program Jati Diri Watan UKM Siri 6 2024) at National Training Center, Gunung Pulai, Johor organized by the Registrar’s Department UKM. Jati Diri Watan Program aims to foster the spirit of camaraderie, strengthen the value of leadership and teamwork in an effort to drive the goals of this Watan University.

This series has involved a total of 98 participants consisting of P&P officers and executive staff. In this camp, a relaxed sharing session was also held between the Vice Chancellor and the participants. During the session, the Vice Chancellor shared his aspirations, mission and vision for the excellence of this watan university.

3) Program Jati Diri Watan Siri 7 2024 Program

8-10 November 2024, The Jati Diri Watan Program Series 7, organized by the UKM Registrar’s Department, has successfully concluded. The program took place over three days and two nights at the MSN Saujana Asahan Complex, Melaka.

A total of 150 participants, including lecturers, Management & Professional (P&P) officers, and administrative staff, took part in the program. On the second day, the event was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of UKM, YBhg. Prof. Dato’ Gs. Ts. Dr. Mohd Ekhwan Hj. Toriman, along with UKM’s senior management team. They engaged with participants and the local community at Masjid Tun Khalil as part of the Budi Watan community service program, in collaboration with YB Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan, the State Assemblyman for Asahan and Exco for Science, Technology, Innovation, and Digital Communication.

The closing ceremony of the Jati Diri Watan Program Series 7 was officiated by the Chairman of the UKM Board of Directors, Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Abd. Razak. In his speech, he expressed his hope that this initiative by the Registrar’s Department would strengthen ties among UKM staff while instilling UKM’s core values in the participants.

4) Governance Empowerment Workshop for the Administration & Facilities Division, Registrar’s Department

November 15 to 17, 2024, the Administration & Facilities Division (BPK), Registrar’s Department organized the Governance Empowerment Workshop for the Administration & Facilities Division at the Institute for Housing & Local Government Training (I-KPKT) in Bentong, Pahang.

This three-day, two-night workshop was an initiative by BPK to strengthen governance by developing and updating new and existing policies and guidelines to enhance the department’s service quality. This effort aligns with the latest circulars issued by the Public Service Department (JPA) as well as the administrative and facility management needs of UKM.

Currently, there are over 40 policies and guidelines under the Administration & Facilities Division, covering new, existing, and revised policies related to university facilities, staff facilities, and administrative & governance matters. A total of 40 staff members participated in the workshop, including personnel from the Administration & Facilities Division, Registrar’s Office, Vehicle Unit, and the Disability Services & Support Unit.

5) Program Strengthening Administrative Officers Series 15: Research and Innovation Affairs Management

4-5 September 2024, The 15th series of the Administrative Officer Strengthening Program is the final series and marks the conclusion of the first phase of the strengthening program organized by UPK, BSM, and the Registrar’s Department. The purpose of this 15th series is to enable the Research and Innovation Affairs (HEPI) team to share with all Heads of Administration and Management & Professional Officers (MPO) regarding the management of research and innovation affairs handled by the five HEPI entities: CRIM, IDEA UKM, INOVASI@UKM, UKM Publishing, and ALAF-UKM, each according to their respective functions.

This sharing session is crucial for all MPOs to ensure that everyone at UKM, as a Research University, has a clear and thorough understanding of the management procedures for all research and innovation activities, which will facilitate all related processes.

6) UKM Administrative Officer Strengthening Program Series 14: Innovative and Creative Teams

10-11 July 2024, The UKM Administrative Officer Strengthening Program Series 14: Innovative and Creative Teams, organized by the Registrar’s Department, is currently being held at the Meeting Room (Ballroom), UKMShape.

This two-day program, taking place from July 10-11, 2024 (Wednesday & Thursday), is attended by the heads of administration from various faculties and staff. The Innovative and Creative Teams (KIK) series is managed by UKM’s Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in KIK. Also present was YBrs. Tuan Haji Zanudin Mohd. Daud, Acting Registrar.

The program aims to introduce participants to the concepts, theories, and practical applications of creative thinking and innovation practices for improving service quality to clients. It focuses on problem-solving, idea generation, and feasibility analysis.

Through the introduction and fundamental implementation of KIK projects, it is hoped that participants will enhance their skills in solving workplace challenges using KIK techniques and cultivate creative thinking and innovation practices in their services.

7) Administrative Officer Strengthening Program: Master of Ceremonies Series

12 June 2024 The Administrative Officer Strengthening Program: Master of Ceremonies Series had been organized by the Registrar’s Department at the Auditorium of the Second Environment Library, focused on event management and planning for activities involving specific committees, key guests, and attendees. To enhance the understanding of UKM’s administration leaders regarding event management, a Master of Ceremonies (MC) module was organized. This module included five main sessions, covering the roles and responsibilities of an MC, effective hosting, and the discipline of hosting before, during, and after the event.

Participants were also introduced to techniques for crafting MC scripts and event protocol development. The module aimed to help administrative leaders and officers gain a clearer understanding of how to conduct events smoothly, ensure proper hosting etiquette, and ultimately improve event management quality.

8) Workshop on Strengthening Administrative Officers Series 12: SME Module on Student and Alumni Affairs Management (HEPA)

29 May 2024, The workshop by the UKM Registrar’s Department continues with The Student Affairs and Alumni Management Module. This session provides knowledge and sharing opportunities for all Heads of Administration and Administrative Officers regarding the management of student affairs and alumni. It covers various aspects, including Student Activity Management, Student Welfare and Sponsorship, Student Counseling Management, Accommodation Management, Student Association Establishment, Disciplinary Management, and Alumni Management at UKM. This module also serves as a guide for Heads of Administration and Officers on how to manage student affairs in an organized and efficient manner.

10) Humanity-Based Leadership Dialogue Program

10 January 2024, The Humanity-Based Leadership Dialogue Program (Program Dialog Kepimpinan Berasaskan Kemanusiaan) is an initiative aimed at fostering empathetic, ethical, and inclusive leadership within academic, administrative, and professional circles at UKM. The program, organized by the Center for Professional and Leadership Development (Professional-UKM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), in collaboration with the Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT), explored the significance of leading with humanity in Malaysia’s higher education sector.

The Director-General of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education (KPT), Prof. Dr. Azlinda Azman, officiated the Humanity-Based Leadership Dialogue Program at Bangi Resort Hotel today. She also delivered a keynote speech titled “The Importance of Leading with Humanity in Higher Education,” emphasizing human-centered leadership in fostering an inclusive, effective, and sustainable higher education ecosystem.

In his closing remarks, UKM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Gs. Ts. Dr. Mohd Ekhwan Hj. Toriman, expressed his hope that the organizers would continue hosting similar leadership discussions, as they are crucial in advancing KPT’s agenda.Additionally, a forum titled “Leading with Humanity: A Catalyst for a Civil Society” was held featuring Prof. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Noor Azlan Ghazali, Director of the Institute for Inclusive Development and Advancement Malaysia, Puan Shariah Nelly Francis, Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan PETRONAS and Datin Dr. Masdiana Sulaiman, Head of Web 3.0 and Metaverse Innovation at CelcomDigi Berhad.

11) Apprentice Talent Leadership Program

26–27 February 2024, The UKM Centre for Professional and Leadership Development (Profesional-UKM) successfully organized the Apprentice Talent Leadership Program over two days, attended by 34 participants from the university’s administrative group, including Unit Heads, Program Heads/Coordinators among Academic and Management & Professional (P&P) staff.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Industry and Community Network Affairs, Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Norazah Mohd Nordin, officiated the Apprentice Talent Leadership Program Series 1 for 2024 on the first day of the event.

Organized by the Succession Planning and Leadership Unit, Centre for Professional and Leadership Development, this program aims to enhance the early leadership capabilities of university administrators by strengthening their governance understanding, charismatic leadership development, fundamental leadership competencies, and leadership competency assessment at the university level.

12) Karisma Leadership Talent Program Series 1

13–14 May 2024, The Centre for Professional and Leadership Development (Profesional-UKM) organized the Karisma Leadership Talent Program Series 1 for the Year 2024 at the Banquet Room, Level 2, Chancellery Building, UKM. The Karisma Leadership Talent Program was officiated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Industry and Community Network Affairs, Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Norazah Mohd Nordin.

This two-day program, attended by 39 selected lecturers and university administrators, aimed to enhance leadership talent, governance, and leadership skills, shape the character of future leaders, and assess leadership competencies.

The webinar featured the head of the Integrity Unit, UKM who shared valuable insights on the significance of trust in fostering an environment of transparency and accountability. The discussions emphasized that trust is the foundation of effective leadership and a key pillar in building a culture of integrity.

The session addressed several critical topics, including the concept of trust as a core value, its impact on decision-making, and the challenges organizations face when trust is undermined. Speakers also delved into the relationship between trust and organizational performance, highlighting how trust between leaders, employees, and stakeholders enhances collaboration and drives positive results.
