Assoc Prof Steve Ferzacca, author, will discuss his book with Dr Adil Johan, Research Fellow at KITA, Prof Jane Jacobs, Professor of Urban Studies at Yale-NUS College, and Dr Liew Kai Khiun, independent scholar.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Join the discussion by posting your questions in the comments on Facebook and YouTube, and the panelists will respond to them during the Q&#038;A session.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Date: 9th July, Friday<br \/>\nTime: 12:00pm SGT<br \/>\nVenue: NUS Press Facebook and YouTube page, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/InstitutKajianEtnikUKM\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">KITA Facebook page<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n&#8212;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">About the book: Based on five years of deep participatory experience, &#8220;Sonic City&#8221; is a sonic ethnography that is centered around a community of noisy people who make rock music within the constraints of urban life in Singapore.<\/p>\n<h2>About the panelists:<\/h2>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>Steve Ferzacca<\/strong> is a cultural anthropologist interested in exploring the sonics involved in everyday life. He is associate professor at the University of Lethbridge, Canada.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>Adil Johan<\/strong> is Research Fellow at the Institute of Ethnic Studies (KITA), The National University of Malaysia. In researching popular music and media in the Malay world, he has published two books including &#8220;Cosmopolitan Intimacies: Malay Film Music of the Independence Era&#8221; (NUS Press, 2018).<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>Jane M. Jacobs<\/strong> is Professor of Urban Studies at Yale-NUS College, Singapore. Her research is in the field of urban cultures, postcolonial urbanisms, architecture in society, qualitative urban methods, and urban comparativism. She has published widely including her books &#8220;Edge of Empire: Postcolonialism and the City&#8221; (1996), &#8220;Uncanny Australia&#8221; (1988), &#8220;Cities of Difference&#8221; (1998) and &#8220;Buildings Must Die&#8221; (2014).<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>Liew Kai Khiun<\/strong> is an independent scholar and part-time lecturer at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
