Program Penjagaan Kencing Manis Dalam Bulan Ramadhan Dan Syawal
January 17, 2025
Ahmad Syafiq Yusof
The program held on 17 January 2025 aimed to equip diabetic patients with knowledge to achieve optimal health balance while performing worship. Ramadan is a challenging month for those with diabetes, as several complications may arise, including hypoglycemia, diabetic ketoacidosis, stroke, and heart failure. Some individuals are actually not recommended to fast and are exempted from fasting due to unstable health conditions.
The Advanced Diabetes Clinic organized this community program to provide information on blood sugar control, proper medication intake, and to raise awareness about individuals who should not fast.
Additionally, the program highlighted challenges during Syawal, a period associated with visiting relatives and consuming various Malaysian dishes, such as lemang, ketupat, and rendang, which are high in fats and carbohydrates. Guidance on dietary adjustments and portion control is essential to ensure that participants’ blood sugar levels remain well-controlled.
Objective:
Provide explanations regarding the rulings on fasting for diabetic patients.
Ensure patients can identify their fasting risk level, highlighting individuals who are advised not to fast.
Provide guidance on the differences in blood sugar monitoring and medication intake during Ramadan.
Educate patients about complications of uncontrolled diabetes during Ramadan.
Teach patients about optimal dietary practices during Ramadan and Syawal to ensure blood sugar levels remain well-controlled.
