Updates From Canmat: Advances In Treatment Of Mood Disorders

The Department of Psychiatry, UKM, is honored to host Prof. Dr. Arun V. Ravindran, a leading psychiatrist from the University of Toronto and distinguished member of the Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments (CANMAT), for a teaching session on 14 October 2025. This academic session will bring together all department members and Master of Psychiatry trainees for an engaging and insightful program. Prof. Ravindran will deliver an honorary lecture titled:“Updates from CANMAT: Advances in the Treatment of Mood Disorders”, highlighting the latest evidence-based practices and international guidelines in the management of mood disorders.

This session represents a valuable opportunity for participants to gain clinical insights, enhance academic knowledge, and contribute to the shaping of international collaboration in psychiatry. It is open to all doctors as a target audience, including the psychiatrists, psychiatrists` trainees, psychologists, psychologists` trainees, primary care doctors, primary physicians, general practitioners, mental-health workers, etc.

Objective:

  1. To enhance academic collaboration between the hosting institution and the visiting professor’s university through knowledge sharing and joint scholarly activities.
  2. To provide opportunities for faculty members and students to gain insights from the visiting professor’s expertise, research, and international experience.
  3. To strengthen research capacity and innovation by fostering discussions on current trends, methodologies, and best practices in the relevant field.
  4. To promote internationalization of academic programs through exchange of ideas, curriculum development, and potential partnership initiatives.
  5. To inspire professional growth and mentorship among academic staff and postgraduate students through lectures, workshops, and personal engagement with the visiting professor.
  6. To identify potential areas for future collaboration, including joint research projects, co-authorship, and academic exchanges.
  7. To enhance the institution’s visibility and reputation by hosting distinguished scholars and experts from globally recognized institutions.
