<\/header>
Fac<\/strong>ulty of Medicine <\/strong> was established on May 30, 1972 with the first Dean\u00a0Dato\u2019 Dr. Amir Abas. The purpose of the Faculty is to give students the opportunity to pursue studies in medicine and able to produce many Malay and local doctors. The faculty began a pre-medical course at the UKM Faculty of Science at Jalan Pantai Baharu, Kuala Lumpur in May 1973 with a recruitment of 44 students (39 boys and 5 girls).\u00a0

The preclinical medical course began in May 1974 in the temporary building of the Faculty of Medicine at Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz in the Kuala Lumpur Hospital Complex. On February 27, 1975, Minister of Health Tan Sri Lee Siok Yew declared the Kuala Lumpur Hospital as the UKM Faculty of Teaching Lecturer for clinical year training. At the beginning of its establishment, the Faculty of Medicine had secured loan lending services from Indonesia for preclinical teaching and from Commonwealth countries for clinical teaching while awaiting UKM faculty lecturers to return from overseas medical training.

The first Medical Examination Final Examination was held from March 19 to 31, 1979 and out of the 42 students who took the examination, 37 of them graduated and conferred the degree of Doctor of Medicine. This is a glorious moment for the Faculty of Medicine in particular and for UKM in general as it has successfully released its first graduates of Doctor of Medicine. The Faculty has also begun undergraduate programs in medical expertise from the 1981\/82 session beginning with the Masters of Surgery (General Surgery) and Masters of Surgery (Orthopedics) followed by the Masters of Medical Science and Doctor of Philosophy. In the early 1990s, the Faculty planned to establish its own teaching hospital and on November 2, 1993 construction of the UKM Hospital (HUKM) began on a 23-acre site on Jalan Tenteram, Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras.<\/p><\/header>

On July 1, 1997 HUKM <\/a>completed and commenced operations. The Dean’s Office and the clinical departments have moved to the HUKM complex while the preclinical departments still occupy the campus of Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz and his students stay at Tun Dr. College. Syed Nasir, Temerloh Road, Kuala Lumpur; while Year III, IV, and V courses are held at HUKM and students are staying at Tun Dr. College. Ismail. HUKM has a total floor area of 200,000 square meters, construction costs RM 327,822,000.00 and can accommodate 1054 patient beds.<\/p>

The Faculty also offers nursing programs such as Bachelor of Nursing with Honors, Nursing Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Nursing. The Faculty has also taken steps by offering Advanced Scholar programs such as Advanced Dermatology, Advanced Cardiology and Advanced Psychiatric and Adolescent Psychiatry.
