Guide for Authors

1) Scope & Article Types

MyJEA publishes high-quality research in fuel cells (PEM/AEM/SOFC), hydrogen technologies (production, storage, safety), electrochemical energy systems (electrocatalysis, membranes/ionomers, MEA), chemical/process engineering for energy (reactors, scale-up, safety), hybridization with storage, environmental electrochemistry & sensors, Power-to-X/CO₂ utilization, techno-economics/LCA/policy, and SDG alignment (primarily SDG 7).

Accepted article types

  • Original Article (6,000–10,000 words)
  • Review/Perspective (8,000–12,000 words)
  • Short Communication (≤3,000 words)

2) Manuscript Structure

Files & Language

  • English (Malay abstract permitted as a second abstract) or Malay (English abstract permitted as a second abstract).
  • Submit in PDF (.pdf) or Microsoft Word (.docx) format; figures high-res PNG or JPG format.
  • For the purpose of the peer review process, manuscripts must be double-spaced and include page numbers and continuous line numbering.

Order

  1. Title (including author names & affiliations; ORCID; corresponding author email)
  2. Abstract (150–250 words)
  3. Keywords (4–6).
  4. Introduction
  5. Materials and Methods/Methodology (ethics approvals where relevant)
  6. Results
  7. Discussion (or combined Results & Discussion)
  8. Conclusion (and Recommendations)
  9. Acknowledgements and Funding
  10. Author Contributions (CRediT taxonomy)
  11. Conflicts of Interest
  12. Data Availability Statement (including repository links/DOIs, if any)
  13. Ethics Statement
  14. References (UKM author–year style, including DOI where available)
  15. Supplementary Material (as separate files)

3) Formatting & Style (UKM)

  • Font & spacing: Times New Roman 11 pt (text), 10 pt (tables/figures), line spacing 1.15, margins 2.5 cm.
  • Headings: 1., 1.1, 1.1.1 numbering.
  • Units: SI only; italicize symbols for variables (I, V, η), not units.
  • Equations: centred with right-aligned numbers (1), (2)…
  • Figures/Tables: concise titles and self-contained captions; cite sources if adapted; place near first mention.
  • Graphics: ≥300 dpi for raster; SVG/EPS preferred for vector.
  • Nomenclature: provide a symbols/abbreviations table if extensive.

5) Ethics & Integrity

  • Follows COPE guidelines; originality required; plagiarism screening (iThenticate/Turnitin) and image-integrity checks.
  • Ethical approvals for human/animal work when applicable.
  • Conflicts of interest must be declared.
  • Authorship/CRediT: only substantial contributors; author order agreed by all.

6) Peer Review

  • Single-blind; at least two expert reviewers per manuscript.
  • Service targets: editorial screening ≤ 7 days; first decision 4–6 weeks; accepted articles posted online within 4 weeks after final files.

7) Data & Preprints

  • Deposit data/code in open repositories (e.g., Zenodo, OSF, Figshare) with DOIs; include availability statements.
  • Preprints allowed; declare platform (arXiv/EngRxiv/ChemRxiv) and version in the cover letter.

8) Submission Package

Submit via the journal portal:
Include
(i) Main Manuscript — DOCX/PDF,
(ii) Figures/Tables (high-res),
(iii) Supplementary Material (if any),
(iv) Cover Letter summarizing contribution, ethics compliance, primary SDG, and 3–5 suggested reviewers (no conflicts).

9) Copyright & Open Access

  • Open Access model: Fully Open Access (Gold OA). The Version of Record is published under CC BY 4.0.
  • APC & waivers: No APCs or submission fees at this time. Year-1 invited papers are fee-waived by default. If APCs are introduced later, the fee and waiver policy will be posted on the Policies page in advance..

10) Production & Publication

  • After acceptance: author proofs (24–48 h), DOI registration, article appears as Early Access before issue assignment.
