Some of the Law Faculty lecturers also have had their first experience working with NGOs on issues pertaining to asylum seekers in Malaysia involving the Rohingya community.<\/p>\n<p>She congratulated the faculty after its legal aid programme for poor communities through the UKM Legal Consultancy Centre had received\u00a0 a grant of RM48,000 from the Ministry of Women , Family and Community Development.<\/p>\n<p>The Dean Faculty of Law, Professor Dr Aishah Bidin said although international humanitarian law has yet to be offered as a subject\u00a0 at the faculty, it had already been integrated in various components in the compulsory third year subject on Public International Law (PIL ).<\/p>\n<p>She said it was a basic requirement\u00a0 that all its students\u00a0would have undergone and understood\u00a0the\u00a0basic principles of international human rights including\u00a0substantive human rights (UN Charter, civil, economic and political rights etc) after their third year\u00a0as well as community oriented\u00a0\u00a0 human rights, international\u00a0law of armed conflicts and\u00a0other fundamental salient features of humanitarian\u00a0 law .<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo ensure our students are well equipped\u00a0with contemporary issues, we believe that the introduction of humanitarian law and\u00a0 human rights law is indispensable\u00a0and\u00a0vital\u00a0to ensure that our students stay abreast\u00a0 with\u00a0 current developments with their peers .<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith such important underlying issues governing the legal regime\u00a0 applicable\u00a0 to International Red Cross and\u00a0contemporary humanitarian law, the Faculty of Law believes\u00a0that it is vital and important\u00a0 to extend our collaboration\u00a0with ICRC,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>To date,\u00a0the Faculty had signed various\u00a0MOUs and letters of\u00a0intent not only\u00a0 with\u00a0several universities in United Kingdom,Tasmania, Iran and Indonesia but also with the industry and government organisations in its pursuit to\u00a0 enhance\u00a0academic excellence in\u00a0research, student exchange and enhancing academic programmes.<\/p>\n<p>A research group from the\u00a0Faculty is also working on a national survey\u00a0with the Companies of Commission of Malaysia to evaluate the\u00a0compliance level of\u00a0corporate responsibility among\u00a0various corporate entities in Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also are working\u00a0with the Attorney General\u2019s Chambers\u00a0and the Malaysia Bar Council\u00a0over the setting\u00a0up of\u00a0a legal clinic at the\u00a0faculty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDiscussion are on going for some terms of\u00a0arrangement\u00a0for our\u00a0 academicians\u00a0to\u00a0go for\u00a0training\u00a0with\u00a0the state legal aid bureaus and the Bar Council.
