We need thinkers, who can write and compile books until they become \u2018the voice\u2019 in the field of education,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Stressing on the importance of educators coming out with better teaching methods he said, \u201cIf we love our younger generations, we have no other options\u201d but to improve our education system.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Earlier, UKM Vice Chancellor Prof Tan Sri Dato\u2019 Dr Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hasan Shahabudin in her welcoming speech said, that to meet the demand and pressure for change, UKM has undertaken various measures to bring about the transformation and innovation in all fields of studies, whether at the level of\u00a0 Advance Diploma,\u00a0 undergraduate and post-graduate degrees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u201cUKM has also sponsored many programmes and activities, all with the aim of making UKM a leading research university, \u201c she said in her speech read out by her deputy, Prof Dato\u2019 Ir Dr Hassan Basri.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She said the research produced by the university\u2019s academic staff with their discipline and academic integrity, could serve as useful inputs to the Government, especially in formulating better methods and system of education in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The latest innovation in education undertaken by UKM was the setting up of\u00a0 a national centre for gifted children (Pusat Permata Pintar Negara) at the campus in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins University of the US where they prepared more suitable and productive methods to teach the gifted children.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To ensure that the graduates of UKM received a holistic education and be more marketable, she said the university had introduced a generic skill evaluation system (Sistem Penilaian Kemahiran Generik or SPKG) last year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cEach student is guided and stimulated to acquire\u00a0eight to 16 generic skills that are embedded in their courses of studies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis is among the examples of the transformation and innovation undertaken by UKM to meet the human capital needed to build the nation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Prof \u00a0Sharifah Hapsah said the needs of the lower levels of education also received the focus of UKM researchers.\u00a0\u201cA solid early education system is vital to ensure continuity when they enter a higher level of education,\u201d she added.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/news\/images\/stories\/Icon\/ukmnewsportal.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TUESDAY, 03 AUGUST 2010 16:27 By Kuah Guan Oo BANGI, 3 Aug 2010 \u2013 Deputy Minister of Higher Education Dato\u2019<a class=\"tukm-readmore\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/news\/archive\/year-2010\/august-2010\/educators-are-you-producing-a-good-person-or-good-worker\/\">Read More<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":9511,"parent":1398,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-9510","page","type-page","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/9510","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=9510"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/9510\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":9512,"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/9510\/revisions\/9512"}],"up":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/1398"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/9511"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=9510"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
