Pusat PERMATA@Pintar Negara, UKM (PPpN UKM) also known as Malaysia National Gifted Centre, is located within the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) campus in Bangi, Selangor. Every year, this centre organises the Junior School Enrichment Programme (JSEP) aiming to help young kids develop their potential and become critical thinkers who are creative in innovative activities. This programme also provides holistic learning experiences where they can explore academic activities beyond the school curriculum. It offers opportunities for participants to build networks with one another and participate in learning activities that challenge their cognitive capabilities. Participants will be assisted with psychological support throughout the 3-days programme. They will also get to experience fun learning STEM-based enrichment activities.<\/p>

Ten (10) STEM enrichment courses are offered to participants aged 7 to 11 years old. They are allowed to choose one (1) course according to their age group and they will be guided by instructors and teaching assistants throughout the 3-days camp. Participants will also be assigned teaching assistants who will help them adjust to the camp routines. Importantly, the camp has a low instructor-to-student ratio (1:5). This enables instructors and teaching assistants to give more attention to each participant. The academic activities involve lectures, small group discussions, lab work, presentations, visits to labs and research institutes as well as talks by experts. Participants will stay at the PPpN UKM campus from 8.00 am until 5.00 pm to take part in all activities.

Special meals can be prepared (e.g., vegetarian food) for students upon request. For security reasons, students are not encouraged to bring their laptops. However, they are allowed to bring their mobile phone but with limited usage.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\tThis course was designed to provide students with the opportunities to discover and understand astronomy and astrophysics through both theoretical and practical\/observational approaches. Throughout the course, the student will be exposed to the fundamental knowledge of celestial objects and how astronomers or astrophysicists observed and obtained the data. Students can also experience how astronomers and astrophysicists work through student projects which require them to utilize the skills they have learned. \n\t\t\t\t\t\tThis course provides an early exposure and fundamental knowledge about science. The 3-days module course is well planned, constructed and created to boost students\u2019 interest in science. Students will be introduced about the key attributes of scientist and scientific methods during the first day of class, so that they will be able to follow the learning journey by understanding about one of the nature of the science. They will then be introduced about the human respiratory system. Students also will be exposed to the science of air resistance focusing on parachute. Finally, this course provide an opportunity to the students to understand the nature of work of a scientist. \n\t\t\t\t\t\tWe have seen forensic scientists in TV shows, but how do they really work? What is the science behind their work? This CSI course provides an early exposure and fundamental knowledge about forensic science, especially in crime scene investigation. Students will learn how forensic experts use chemistry, biology, and physics to discover the hidden clues left behind at crime scenes and solve difficult cases by experiencing as the real forensic science investigator during the mock crime scene investigation. The 3-day module will provide students with hands-on experiences on fingerprints analysis, footwear analysis, hair analysis, handwriting and questioned document analysis, bloodstain and blood pattern analysis, DNA extraction, and so on. This interactive and hands-on course are developed to introduce and disseminate knowledge on genetic engineering and biotechnology using interactive and hands-on teaching modules. The main aim of this course is to raise the awareness and interests of school students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields through the implementation an inquiry-based teaching platform for addressing the worrying trend of declining interests in STEM. This course will implement MySchoolGEM (Genetic Engineering Module) comprising of three modules DNA, Microbes and GMO modules that integrate project- and ICT-based teaching concepts for stimulating students\u2019 interest and understanding in the basics of genetic engineering and biotechnology. The practical section is meant to provide participants with basic knowledge on how to construct and programed robots in order to pique their curiosity. In this course, an automotive design and engineering base on \nF1 in Schools competition in order to encourages participants to explore\n all areas of the curriculum whilst designing, making testing and racing\n a miniature car powered by compressed air. For each topic, students will be involved in hands-on activity to relate the basic concept of atom and matter. Then, students will be introduced to waves which involves light wave and sound wave. Students will be also exploring the concept of energy focusing on heat, electricity, and electromagnetism. They will be exposed with the concept of transfer of energy such as conduction, convection, and radiation. In electricity, students will have an opportunity to create a simple electric circuit using a biobattery.
