Outstanding Achievement at MJIC 2026 International Innovation Competition
A research team has achieved significant international recognition at the 7th Malaysia-Japan International Conference on Nanoscience, Nanotechnology and Nanoengineering 2026 (MJIC2026) through their participation in the International Innovation Competition 2026. The prestigious event, held from 23–25 January 2026 at Hotel Royale Chulan, Seremban, gathered researchers, innovators, and industry experts under the theme “Nanotechnology for Sustainable Development and Circular Economy.”
The team was honoured with two awards:
- Platinum Award (Pre-University/Higher Institution Category)
- Special Award (Gold) – Undergraduate Category
These awards were presented in recognition of their innovative project titled:
“Sustainable Dual-Function Bionanocomposite Foam from Recycled Plastics and Rice Husk for Smart Living Applications.”
The project demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to sustainability by integrating recycled plastic materials with agricultural biomass (rice husk) to develop a functional bionanocomposite foam with potential applications in smart living environments. The innovation aligns strongly with global efforts toward circular economy practices and environmentally responsible material development.
The research team consists of:
- Akil Kamili Bin Anuar (Leader)
- Ulfah Nadia Binti Rahman
- Muhammad Rusydi Bin Mohd Shafee
- Ts. Dr. Chen Ruey Shan
- Prof. Dr. Sahrim Ahmad
- Dr. Farah Nadia Binti Mohammad Padzil
This achievement highlights the team’s dedication to innovation and reinforces the institution’s commitment to advancing high-impact research at the international level. It also serves as an inspiration for future research initiatives that address global sustainability challenges through science and technology.
