They comprise natural habitat from marine, freshwater, highland, and tropical-rain forest. Langkawi Research Center (PPL) is dedicated to enhance socioeconomic status through tourism and conservation at Langkawi Global Geopark. PPL also works in close cooperation with UNESCO. Another living lab is Tasik Chini Research Centre which serves as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the first of its kind in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.<\/p><p>Other living labs are also keeping the same spirit. Marine Research Centre (EKOMAR) in Mersing, Johor focuses on the marine science field. Fraser Hill Research Centre concentrates on the conservation field and Kuala Pilah Research Centre highlights the field of Jatropha biofuel. The concept of LUGG is considered as a new management tool for sustainable regional development.<\/p><p>It bases its concept of \u201cscience to action\u201d. It is derived from the conservation of natural heritage, translated into knowledge-based tourism, and integrated into actions that leads to the social wellbeing of the local flora and fauna, physical and socio-cultural heritage, and threatened areas;<\/li><li>To study and prepare inventories of the local ecosystems, i.e. mangrove forests, river estuaries, flora and fauna of the marine coastal zone and islands within the east Johor waters;<\/li><li>To serve as a reference centre for biological diversity and conservation in the east coast of Johor;<\/li><li>To conduct research based on products (for example, biotechnology, ecotourism and aquaculture);<\/li><li>To establish collaborative network and strengthen cooperative linkages with equivalent centres within the to the diversity of flora and fauna, water, soil, and air. PPTC was established under the auspices of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), specifically to conduct research, teaching, fieldwork, environmental awareness, and dissemination of information on integrated lake management to the community.<\/p><p>The Pahang State Government has allocated 20 acres of land in the grounds of Tasik Chini to be used as a development site for the PPTC complex. The relationship between the Pahang State Government and UKM in the establishment of PPTC is in line with the demands for the implementation of policies contained in the Pahang State Physical Plan (2001-2020) and the Pekan District Local Plan (2002-2015) in the sustainable development and conservation of Tasik Chini as Environmentally Sensitive Areas
