Celebrating the New Advisor to Minister of Higher Education

Professor Dato’ Dr. Ibrahim Komoo, the Founding Director of SEADPRI-UKM and LESTARI’s Principal Research Fellow was appointed as Advisor to Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia from 16 September 2011. Professor Ibrahim Komoo, the 2010 Langkawi Award Winner, former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation of UKM, has a strong background in the academic sector and excellent track record in knowledge generation and dissemination, and commitment to reach out to the society at large. This prestigious appointment is testament to Professor Ibrahim Komoo’s impressive tradition of excellence and outstanding contribution at national and international levels, including as the former Senior Manager at Petronas Scientific and Research Services (PRSS) and former Vice President of the International Association of Engineering Geology (IAEG). Professor Ibrahim is currently a member of the National Council of Professors, heading the cluster of Natural Reources and Environment, also a Council Member of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, and Global Geopark Assessor of the Bureau of Experts on Geoparks under UNESCO. The colleagues at SEADPRI, LESTARI and UKM, as well as staff and friends in many other institutions all over Malaysia, and Asia Pacific, celebrate this special appointment. We congratulate and believe Professor Ibrahim can make a difference to the Higher Education sector through his new role, and that he would work well with the Honourable Minister Dato Seri Khaled Nordin in promoting all the good values of higher education and wisdom, for a better quality of life for all in Malaysia, and beyond.
