30th of October 2016, The Berkeley Hotel Pratunam, Bangkok, Thailand<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0 Introduction \/ Background <\/strong><\/p>\n Land development, urban sprawl and an overall increasing population pose emerging challenges to secure food production and safeguarding of water resources. The sustainable management of natural resources and related risk management requires interdisciplinary scientific cooperation, as well as a strong involvement and commitment of local stakeholders and decision makers. Meanwhile many natural resources and food production are potentially impacted by climate change they are certainly affected by socio-economic development. Several studies have shown that the anthropogenic impact on natural resources (i.e. water) and agriculture (i.e. soils) is often much stronger than the one of climate change. Soil and water resources, both in quantities and qualities, should therefore be analyzed under different climate change and socio-economic development scenarios. In this way it is possible to estimate future developments and related risks. The development of different scenarios for appropriate resource management support the communication between scientists, local stakeholders and decision makers.<\/p>\n This workshop presents the results of some ongoing projects that have assessed such risks to natural and agricultural resources. The applied modelling and assessments and methodologies are explained in the presentations \u2013 with the aim to trigger constructive discussions. The goal of the workshop is to identify possibilities for geosciences to support South and South-East Asian societies in safeguarding water and food resources.<\/p>\n ORGANISERS The Workshop is jointly organized by the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), the Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Initiative of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (SEADPRI-UKM), the \u00a0Sub-Institute of Hydro-Meteorology and Climate Change, Vietnam (SIHYMECC), the \u00a0Centre for Water Resources Warning and Forecasting, Vietnam (CEWAFO), Asian Network on Climate Science and Technology (ANCST) and the CCOP Technical Secretariat, in conjunction with the 50th CCOP Annual Session, held from 30 October to 3 November 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n TENTATIVE PROGRAMME <\/strong><\/p>\n The half-day Workshop on 30 October 2016 will focus on exchange of methodologies and technologies to further water management and sustainable development in the CCOP area.
