About SFCHT2021<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Symposium on Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Technology 2021 (SFCHT2021) will be held online on 26-27 October 2021<\/strong> with the theme \u201cSustainable energy: Towards circular economy & climate neutrality\u201d<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

SFCHT2021 is the 2nd<\/sup> international symposium organized by the Fuel Cell Institute<\/strong> (SELFUEL)<\/strong>, UKM & The Malaysian Association of Hydrogen Energy<\/strong> (MAHE)<\/strong>. The first symposium (SFCHT2019) <\/strong>was successfully organized on 17-18 April 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Energy security is crucial<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

to ensure sustainable development in a country. Climate change, globalisation and the unpredictable future of fossil fuels have posed a grand challenge to the world in search of solutions. Solutions to energy sustainability, energy efficiency, and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions are among the keys to unlock the door to a low-carbon society for sustainable living. Among the many candidates answering the call to address these challenges, hydrogen and fuel cell technologies are enablers for transitioning to a clean and low-carbon energy system. With the advantage of hydrogen being an energy carrier with high calorific value, these technologies are believed to be a game-changer in the future sustainable energy mix, contributing to transportation, power plant, and residential sectors. Over the decades, intensive efforts on research and development have been made to make these technologies more affordable and reliable, and they have led to promising outcomes. More industrial players are investing in these future technologies in recent years, indicating the growth of interest worldwide. Hydrogen society has also been aggressively promoted in several countries such as Japan and China to help mitigate environmental issues and promote a circular economy to ensure sustainable living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Symposium of Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Technology 2021 (SFCHT2021) is now calling for academicians, researchers, scientists, practitioners, and students to gather and share new ideas in related fields, thus strengthening the network between the stakeholders in this niche area. The symposium will also bring together representatives of industry players from the national and international levels to speak. With this, it is hoped that the hydrogen and fuel cell technologies community will grow more vital to better human life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Fuel Cell Institute, Universiti Kebangsaan Malasysia<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Fuel Cell Institute (SELFUEL) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) was established in July 2006 and is the only institute in Malaysia undertaking major research in the field of fuel cells and hydrogen energy. On January 1, 2007, Prof Ir. Dr. Wan Ramli Wan Daud was officially appointed Director of SELFUEL by UKM Vice-Chancellor, YBhg. Prof. Tan Sri Dato \u2018Wira Dr. Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hassan Shahbudin. In 2014, Prof. Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad was appointed a new director and subsequently in 2017 to date, SELFUEL\u2019s directorship position was held by Prof. Ir. Dr. Siti Kartom Kamarudin. The fuel cell technology is developed to solve the energy crisis problem faced by the world. This technology is also capable of reducing pollution and greenhouse gases in the world. This fuel cell works when the redox reaction converts chemical energy into electricity through electrochemical principles. This process does not involve the combustion process whereas the waste is heat and water. Although SELFUEL was officially established in 2006, but UKM fuel cell research has been around for about 20 years. The success achieved by SELFUEL is extremely commendable when SELFUEL is involved with various international-class activities, and has produced several prototypes besides being active in research and publication of high-impact journals.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
