The Standard Chest Drain Trainer is a unique design, combining simulated tactile soft tissue within a practical and durable plastic casing. The practice and training of clinical and surgical techniques can be realistically achieved.
Key skills
- The identification of anatomical landmarks, such as the sternal notch and intercostal (rib) spaces
- The students can make surgical incisions through the simulated soft tissue
- Blunt dissection can be practiced with forceps * Complete finger rotation is possible
- Practice realistic relief of Tension Pneumothorax between ribs 2 and 3 (where the release of air can be clearly heard and felt)
- Pericardiocentisis, where fluid can be aspirated into a syringe. This is to demonstrate removal of blood from the pericardium
- Seldinger technique can be used
Features
- This innovative design accurately simulates the key anatomy of the chest, providing a realistic alternative to the use of animal tissue
- The trainer presents as a patient lying flat on their back. Surgical access is lateral to the pectoralis major
- The Chest Drain will take 20-25 full insertions (and more if the Seldinger technique is used)
- The Chest Drain Trainer is used at many training centers world-wide, and on trauma life support courses in the UK
