Microalgae Workshop II

We are excited to highlight that Dr. Wan Nazihah Liyana Wan Jusoh, one of our esteemed team members, was invited as a speaker at the Microalgae Workshop II held on 24–25 June 2025 at the Faculty of Engineering & Built Environment, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). This prestigious workshop, themed “Advancing Sustainable Solutions Through Microalgae”, was organised under the UKM-YSD Chair for Sustainability in collaboration with several academic and industry partners.

Dr. Wan Nazihah delivered a talk in the expert hybrid session titled “Advances Cultivation: Microalgae Cultivation in Hydrogel System”, where she shared the latest developments in using hydrogel matrices for efficient, scalable, and eco-friendly microalgae cultivation. Her presentation drew attention to the advantages of hydrogel-based systems in terms of biomass productivity, sustainability, and integration into bioremediation and bioproduct development frameworks.

The two-day workshop featured both theory and hands-on practical sessions, including microalgae cultivation techniques, biorefinery applications, carbon capture technologies, and membrane filtration. With participation from leading experts such as Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Sobri Takriff, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Chisti, and researchers from UKM and PETRONAS, the event was a dynamic platform for exchanging knowledge and fostering research collaboration in the field of algal biotechnology.

Participants also received exciting practical kits and took part in lab visits and interactive expert discussions, making the workshop a comprehensive learning experience for both newcomers and seasoned professionals in the field.

Dr. Wan Nazihah’s contribution marks another proud moment for our team in supporting innovative and sustainable biotechnological solutions through advanced research.
