Global Algae Summit 2024

The Global Algae Summit 2024 was successfully held on 15 August 2024 at Monash University Malaysia, bringing together an inspiring mix of researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers to explore the transformative potential of algae in advancing sustainability across Southeast Asia. Organized by Leave a Nest Malaysia, the summit served as a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration.

Throughout the program, participants engaged in keynote talks, panel discussions, and pocket sessions focusing on various algae-based innovations including renewable energy, bioremediation, sustainable food and feed and etc. The event also featured an engaging poster presentation session, where researchers showcased their latest findings and breakthroughs in the field of algal biotechnology. Representing our research team, Mrs. Wan Nazihah Liyana took part as a poster presenter, sharing her groundbreaking work on microalgae cultivation within hydrogel systems integrated with 3D bioprinting techniques.

Her research demonstrates an innovative strategy for enhancing microalgae growth, nutrient utilization, and structural design precision, paving the way for sustainable applications in biofertilizers and green systems. Through her presentation, she highlighted how hydrogel-based microalgae systems can support long-term cultivation efficiency while enabling scalable and eco-friendly production, a concept aligned with the summit’s vision of integrating biotechnology and sustainability to achieve regional development goals.

The Global Algae Summit 2024 not only fostered a deeper understanding of algae’s potential but also strengthened connections among researchers and industry players, encouraging collaboration toward a low-carbon, circular, and innovation-driven future.
