Viva Voce – Jude Santanaraj

On March 9, 2018, the academic community at the Department of Chemical & Process Engineering reached a significant milestone as Jude Santanaraj A/L Dulasidas successfully completed his viva voce examination. Enrolled in the Master of Science program, Jude’s defense was the culmination of an intensive research journey, marking his official transition into a recognized expert in his field. This achievement underscores his deep commitment to excellence and his ability to navigate the demanding technical rigors of chemical engineering.

Jude’s research, titled “Penyingkiran Perencat Berpotensi Dalam Biopenukaran Lignolelulosa Menggunakan Teknik Pengoksidaan Fenton dan Penjerapan,” addresses a critical bottleneck in the development of sustainable biofuels. His work focused on identifying and removing potential inhibitors that often hinder the efficient conversion of lignocellulosic biomass—essentially agricultural waste—into bioenergy. By pioneering a dual-action approach using Fenton oxidation and adsorption techniques, Jude demonstrated a highly effective method for purifying bioconversion processes. This research provides a vital pathway for making green energy solutions more efficient, cost-effective, and scalable for industrial use.

Under the dedicated mentorship of his main supervisor, Dr. Mohd Shaiful Sajab, Jude successfully bridged the gap between complex laboratory-scale chemistry and practical engineering applications. The successful defense of his thesis is a testament to the synergy between student and supervisor, reflecting a high standard of academic inquiry and innovation. Jude’s ability to articulate his findings and defend his methodology before the examination panel further solidified his reputation as a meticulous and insightful researcher.

As he prepares to embark on the next chapter of his professional career, Jude Santanaraj leaves behind a valuable contribution to the study of lignocellulosic bioconversion. His success on this day in 2018 serves as an inspiration to his peers and a proud moment for the entire faculty. We extend our heartiest congratulations to Jude on earning his Master of Science degree and look forward to the continued impact of his work in the field of sustainable process engineering.
