About the speaker:<\/strong><\/span>
\nClaire Seungeun Lee holds a PhD degree in Sociology from the National University of Singapore. She works at the China Regional and Provincial Research Team at Korea Institute for International Economic Policy in the Republic of Korea. Her research areas include economic and cultural sociology, international migration and the interdisciplinary study of Asian societies, a primary concern being an investigation of the complex connections between China and its neighboring countries throughout the Asia region.<\/p>\n

Her recent major publications include \u201cChina’s Engagement with GMS: Co-production, Cooperation and Competition,\u201d \u201cSouth Koreans in a Global City-State Singapore: Historical Trajectory, Types of Temporal Migration, Future Retrospect,” \u201cChina\u2019s Leap Forward from \u2018Brain Drain\u2019 to \u2018Brain Gain\u2019: Its International Student Recruitment Strategy and the Decisionmaking Process of Foreign Students,\u201d \u201cThe Role of Corporate Social Responsibility in China’s Sustainable Development” among others.<\/p>\n

Synopsis:<\/strong><\/span>
\nThis study explores the very first twin joint governmental projects, namely, China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park (CMQIP) and Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP). As these two parks are in an early stage of their developments, this research only remains as a preliminary attempt to trace developmental trajectories and envision the future. The primary focus of this talk will be shedding light on functions of local and central government, alliance structure, and organization. This also highlights some different features of the Suzhou Industrial Park which firstly established in 1994 as a joint venture between China and Singapore compared to CMQIP and MCKIP. This study will give some implications and address unsolved issues for these cases.<\/p>\n
