FELLOWSHIP IN RHINOLOGY, ALLERGY, SEPTORRHINOPLASTY, ANTERIOR SKULL BASE AND SMELL & TASTE

6 months (maximum 12 months)

UKM Medical Centre/ Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, Cheras 56000 Kuala Lumpur

Post graduate certificate in Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery

  1. To learn the management and treatment of nose, sinonasal and skull base lesion and tumours.
  2. To learn the management and treatment of allergy diseases.
  3. To learn the management and treatment of smell and taste disorders.
  4. To perform common nasal and sinonasal surgery.
  5. To learn the advanced rhinology surgery including skull base surgery, septorrhinoplasty.
  1. Candidate is required to perform all clinical activities at the level of a specialist i.e. run clinics, do ward rounds, perform rhinology surgeries confidently and safely , do on-calls.
  2. Candidate must attend  ENT-Oncology combine clinic.
  3. Candidate must attend at least once the Endoscopic Sinus Surgery dissection course .
  4. Candidate must observe all Rhinology cases performed either as elective or emergency.
  5. Candidate must pass the viva examinations which will be at end of  the programme.
  6. Candidates must assist as many cases as possible both common and advanced Rhinology surgery.
  7. Candidate must keep a log book and an audit of his/her performance.
  8. Candidate must be contactable and regularly meet with course director.
  9. Candidate is required to join all clinical and academic activities of the Unit.
  10. Candidate must publish at least 1 manuscript in a WOS journal.

Certificate of completion of training certified by Course Director and Dean, Faculty of Medicine UKM will be given to all successful candidates.

  1. Please apply at least 6 months before intended start date.
  2. Letter of recommendation by 2 senior Rhinologists are required.
  3. You will need Temporary Practising Certificate (TPC) by Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). Please ensure you fulfil all the requirements for TPC. https://mmc.gov.my/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/TPC_July_2019_2.pdf
  4. Application for TPC will be forwarded to MMC by UKM except for Letter of Good Standing.
  5. All candidates wishing to pursue Clinical Fellowship Programme at the Faculty of Medicine, UKM are
    required to apply for credentialing and privileges prior to commencing the fellowship program. Please

DEFINITION

Credentialing: a process to set the standards and to do an evaluation for a person’s qualification in a field or procedure. It is recognition for the professional training done by a medical practitioner.

Privileges: the rights given by the hospital for a medical practitioner to give treatments or to do procedures on hospital patients based on the qualifications of the training, and the medical practitioner’s experience and expertise.
