Law Jia XianCTERMElucidation of miRNA profile in exosomes of different cell sources and its relationship with cartilage regeneration131,400.00One MscDr. Law Jia Xian is a senior lecturer at Center for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine (CTERM), Faculty of Medicine, National University of Malaysia (UKM), Malaysia. He received his PhD in Tissue Engineering from UKM in 2016. His research interests including stem cells, extracellular vesicles, biomaterials, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. He has published more than 20 publications in international peer reviewed journals and 4 book chapters (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=tVh9ZlEAAAAJ&hl=en , https://www.scopus.com/authid/detail.uri?authorId=56111758600). He recently received a FRGS grant from the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. The project title is “Elucidation of miRNA profile in exosomes of different cell sources and its relationship with cartilage regeneration”. He would like to recruit a highly motivated Master student for the project. Stipend will be provided. 
Hamidah Binti AliasPaediatricsElucidating the genetic variants profile and determine their functional roles in children with relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukaemia(ALL)161,800.00One MScDr. Hamidah Alias is a Professor of Paediatrics and Senior Consultant Paediatric HaematoOncologist at the Department of Paediatrics, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (UKMMC), Kuala Lumpur and presently the Head of Unit. She is board certified in General Paediatrics and Paediatric Haematology and Oncology by the National Specialist Registration, Malaysia and currently a member of the Specialty sub-committee for national credentialing in paediatric haemato-oncology. She is an accredited trainer in paediatric haemato-oncology in Malaysia. Dr. Hamidah is also a principal fellow with UKM Medical Molecular Biology Institute (UMBI). Her research interests focus on clinical and molecular of childhood malignancies, especially leukaemias and haematological condition, thalassaemia. Her research collaboration includes the institutional, national and international levels. She has published over 70 papers in local and international peer-reviewed journals. She is the current President of Malaysian Society of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology(MASPHO) 2019/2021, and Medical Advisor to a NGO, Cancer Associates and Kindred Network(CAKNE) a support group for childhood cancer patients treated in UKMMC. Currently, she is leading a research on children with relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and looking for a full-time postgraduate(Masters) student who is enthusiatic to join her dynamic team at UKMMC and UMBI. The work will involve collection of clinical samples and datasets, next-generation sequencing and basic molecular biology techniques. Guidance and training on laboratory skills will be provided during the project.
Mohd Fauzi Bin Mh BusraCTERMElucidating the Human Dermal Fibroblasts Stability via Integrin-FAK Signaling Pathway in 3D-Printed Gelatin Bio-inks151,200.00One MScMohd Fauzi Mh Busra has been joined Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) since 2009 started as a Science Officer for 9 years before appointed as Senior Lecturer cum Research Fellow since 2018 at Centre for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine (CTERM), Faculty of Medicine, UKM. He is currently played a major role in the research field and a small portion in the teaching of nursing and medical students. He has vast experience in the tissue engineering field especially in biomaterials development by using different fabrication technologies for various tissue applications such as skin, cartilage, cornea, respiratory airways and others. To date, he acts as the Principal Investigator on seven active research projects on biomaterials followed by thirteen active research projects as co-researcher. His previous contributions to the current field include investigation of the potential animal livestock (extracted collagen type I from tendon) to be used as provisional bio-template for future use in biomedical and clinical applications. He is also currently awarded an international research fund from European Commission (Horizon 2020) to extend the ovine collagen work towards pre-commercialization product and for local Medical Device Authority registration. He also works closely with two industrial partners to develop 3D-bioprinting and nanomaterials technologies.He currently has 18 publications as the main author and corresponding author and is an accredited co-author on 31 more publications in biomaterials and other fields published in ISI, WoS, Scopus and non-index journals. Currently, his achievement in Scopus (H-index:8, citation 207), Publons (H-index:6, citation 134) and Google scholar (H-index:9, citation 280), He has secured two product patents from ovine collagen type I comprising the thin film and lyophilized sponge for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
Mawaddah Binti AzmanORLElucidating the role of stem cell and secretome loaded biomaterial for vocal fold regeneration in glottic insufficiency152,000.00Two MScDr Mawaddah Azman is an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery working in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She is a lecturer and Specialist working in the Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. She is a young and aspiring researcher who has published randomised clinical trials on various topics including immunonutrition, xerostomia and sleep apnea. In recent years, she developed deep interest in improving techniques and materials used in office medialization laryngoplasty. This has stemmed from collaborative work with the Centre for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine , Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Her current laboratory research will study biomaterials  that can potentially induce vocal fold regeneration in patients with vocal fold paralysis. Dr Mawaddah is the main research supervisor of eight already completed masters projects and is actively involved in national and international multicentre studies.  

DING CHUAN HUNMicrobiologyWhole genome characterization and multi-locus sequence typing of Candida tropicalis: a pioneer pathogenomic study in Malaysia153,400.00One MScI am an associate professor of medical microbiology from the Department of Medical Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, UKM. I obtained my Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery degrees from IMU in 2005 and my Doctor of Pathology degree from UKM in 2013. I have seven years of experience training both medical doctors and clinical microbiology specialists in UKM. I am also the current head of mycology services in Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz. To date, I have published 22 WoS-indexed articles related to medical microbiology. I am a peer reviewer for various WoS-indexed journals, such as Tropical Biomedicine and Malaysian Journal of Pathology. I am particularly interested in Candida research and have recently been awarded an FRGS grant to conduct in-depth molecular research on Candida tropicalis. Therefore, I am looking for a graduate research assistant to perform multi-locus sequence typing and whole genome sequencing of Candida tropicalis as a Master of Medical Science project. 
Azman Bin AbdullahPharmacologyThe Effects of Tocotrienols Administration on the Expression of Hepatoprotective Proteins in Diethylnitrosamine and 2-Acetylaminofluorene-Induced Hepatocarcinogenesis in Rats102,660.00One MScI am Dr Azman Abdullah, from the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, UKM. I first joined the Department of Pharmacology as a tutor in November 1998. I graduated from UKM in Biomedical Sciences [B.Biomed.Sci. (Hons)] in 1997. After one year of tutorship, I was given a study leave by UKM to obtain my Masters and PhD. I obtained a Masters in Medical Science (Pharmacology) [M.Med.Sci.(Pharmacol)] from UKM in 2002, and PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Liverpool in 2007. My research interest lies primarily in the area of molecular pharmacology of natural products, especially the chemopreventive effects of natural products on the liver. I am interested to understand how natural products could affect the gene and protein expression of various drug metabolising enzymes in the liver (and elsewhere). In doing so, we could potentially screen which natural products have chemopreventive actions in the liver (or elsewhere for that matter). The natural products that I am most interested in are Palm Oil Tocotrienols, Ulam Raja (Cosmos caudatus) and Daun Kesom (Polygonum minus). I was recently awarded the FRGS grant and the title of my research is “The Effects of Tocotrienols Administration on the Expression of Hepatoprotective Proteins in Diethylnitrosamine and 2-Acetylaminofluorene-Induced Hepatocarcinogenesis in Rats”. In this research, I will be using the latest proteomics approach in order to discover liver proteins that are hepatoprotective against chemically-induced liver cancer, using a rat model. Hashim Bin EmbongEmergencyElucidating the role of the kynurenine pathway in an acute delirium rat model164,400.00One MScDr. Hashim is a Senior Lecturer and Consultant Emergency Physicians in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Medical Centre.  Graduated from the UKM, he joined the faculty of medicine immediately after completing his post-graduate training in emergency medicine in 2011. He holds positions as a coordinator for the undergraduate and post-graduate programs at the Department of Emergency Medicine. These include an undergraduate program in Science of Emergency Medicine and post-graduate training in Doctor of Emergency Medicine. Having been involved in post-graduate training, Hashim serves as a principal investigator on several clinical research projects, including studies on geriatric related issues in emergency medicine.  Much of his research was conducted in collaboration with other clinical researchers in various fields. Amongst them are ‘Delirium burden among elderly patients presenting to the emergency department and its associated factors’ and ‘Psychometric properties of the Malay translated KIHON checklist of frailty assessment among the elderly in the Malaysian population’. His current research project is on elucidating the role of the Kynurenine pathway in an acute delirium rat model and received a fundamental research grant scheme (FRGS) from the Ministry of Education. Nordashima Abd ShukorPathologyElucidating the role of gut microbiota in mother with chorioamnionitis188,900.00One PhDDr. Nordashima Abd Shukor is a Histopathologist and Cytopathologist as well as a Senior Lecturer in Pathology Department, Faculty of Medicine, UKM. She has great interest in the field of renal pathology.  Her research interest is on renal pathology and identifying the role of microbiome in intraamniotic infection. She has supervised many clinical and non-clinical master student.  She has multiple publications in peer reviewed journals. She has received multiple awards including Best Poster Award (2017) and excellent service award for the year 2019. Also, she contributes as invited reviewers for many journals. She is looking for a graduate research assistant (PhD) urgently for a research project investigating the role of gut microbiota in mother with chorioamnionitis. The study involves next generation sequencing and immunohistochemical study. The project is supported by Fundamental Research Grant Scheme 2020. The position is open for Malaysians only. Previously, he worked as Medical Officer in Hospital Batu Pahat (2001-2004) and Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Klang (2004-2006) before joining UKM as training lecturer (2006-2015). He specialized in Public Health and Occupational Health. His current research interests are on Leptospirosis and Tubercuslosis, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Occupational Stress, Noise impairment and Noise Induced Hearing Loss. He obtained his MB. BCh. BAO. LRCP & SI in 1991 from Royal Collage of Surgeon, Ireland and MPH in 2008 from Universiti Kebangsaa Malaysia. He was conferred a DrPH from Universiti Kebangsaa Malaysia in 2015. He is a Certified Medical Impairment Assessor (CMIA) in 2015 and appointed at Public Health Consultant att Faculty of Medicine, UKM in 2017. After appointed as Public Health Medicine Specialist, Dr Halim was part of research group with grant awarded at RM193,528.70. As project leader he had secured RM3728.40 from Dana Fundamental PPUKM for research work related to occupational health. He recently received FRGS grants (FRGS/1/2020/SKK04/UKM/02/2 – RM 56600.00) for research project entitle ‘Mengenalpasti Faktor-Faktor Mempengaruhi Kepatuhan Kakitangan Kesihatan Kumpulan Pengurusan dan Anggota Pelaksana Kepada Program Pencegahan TIBI di Tempat Kerja di Negeri Selangor’ and currently looking for interested and dedicated future student to apply as GRA for this project. Credentialing: a process to set the standards and to do an evaluation for a person’s qualification in a field or procedure. It is recognition for the professional training done by a medical practitioner.

Privileges: the rights given by the hospital for a medical practitioner to give treatments or to do procedures on hospital patients based on the qualifications of the training, and the medical practitioner’s experience and expertise.
