Open Roof Ventilation Green House<\/strong> is an automated system with controlled temperature, humidity and injection of carbon dioxide located at the Green House Complex, Faculty of Science and Technology, UKM. The aim of the project is to observe the impact of climate change, in particular, the impact of elevated carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration on biological species and ecosystem function.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

FREE AIR CARBON DIOXIDE ENRICHMENT (FACE)<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Free Air Carbon Dioxide Enrichment (FACE)<\/strong> is the latest project conducted by researchers of the Climate Change Niche, and this project is the first being established in the country and in the tropical region. The FACE system enriches the atmosphere of a small mecocosm of the terrestrial ecosystem with an elevated concentration of carbon dioxide that is injected freely into the designated area.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

CARBON CAPTURE LABORATORY<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Carbon Capture Laboratory<\/strong> is well equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities. It has an algae culture room for maintaining the native algal species that have been successfully isolated and purified. The laboratory is also equipped with photobioreactor and raceway pond at various working volumes. In addition, a system for clarifying industrial effluent based on integrated CO2 sequestration and phycoremediation using microalgae has been fabricated based on a patent that has been filed with Intelectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO). <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

OCEAN ACIDIFICATION LABORATORY<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Ocean Acidification Laboratory<\/strong> was set up in 2014, with major funding from Earth Observation Centre (EOC), IPI and was supported by the Chair with the grant research. The core research in this laboratory will focus on investigating the impact of temperature increase on the physiology and behaviour of various marine species. Apart from changes in seawater temperature, research on reduced pH and altered seawater carbonate system which are also very important in ocean climate change study will also be conducted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
