Professor Lang<\/strong> is a translational cardiologist with a track record in research excellence in the area of cardiovascular complications of T2D. He has published more than 250 papers in major journals, including NEJM, Lancet, European Heart Journal, JACC,<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Circulation. <\/em>He has an H factor of 57. He is WP Co-Lead in the IMI2-CARDIATEAM project on diabetic cardiomyopathy and a WP lead in the FP-7 BIOSTAT system biology project on heart failure and is the Chief Investigator of the BHF funded MET-REMODEL and RECEDE trials and the EFSD funded REFORM trial.<\/p>\n

Professor Rahman Jamal
\n(Principal Investigator, Malaysia)\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

Professor Rahman Jamal<\/strong> is a senior principal research fellow and the founding director of the UKM Medical Molecular Biology Institute (UMBI). He is a Professor of Paediatric Haematology & Oncology and Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Medicine UKM. He obtained his Ph.D. from University College London. He is currently the Principal Investigator for The Malaysian Cohort project which follows closely the aims and protocols of the UK Biobank. He also leads a number of research teams focusing on cancers and also non-communicable diseases including diabetes. He is a fellow of the Academy Sciences Malaysia as well as the chairman of the National Subcommittee for Ethics in Cell Therapy and Research. He has published more than 160 indexed journal articles that cover the areas of cancer genomics and non-communicable diseases.<\/p>\n

Professor Colin Palmer<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/td>\n

\n

Professor Colin Palmer <\/strong>has a major international reputation in relation to his research on the identification of the genetic basis of phenotypic traits and complex diseases and pharmacogenetics. He has an H factor of 71; his papers have been cited over 24,000 times. He pioneered population pharmacogenetic research, with the establishment of the GoDARTS\/GoSHARE cohorts, now a major resource for the study of diabetes with >40,000 patients and controls with linkage to complete electronic medical records. The development of these unique resources allowed him to play a key role in the discovery of genes for T2D, cardiovascular disease, and obesity, including trans-ethnic collaborations with Dr. Mohan and many other Asian groups. This has led to the establishment of the NIHR-funded INSPIRED collaboration in India, providing key experience directly related to PRIME.<\/p>\n

Professor Emanuele Trucco <\/strong>is the director of the VAMPIRE programme, created more than 10 years ago with the University of Edinburgh (Dr. T MacGillivray), and co-leads the Computer Vision and Image Processing (CVIP) group which carries out research on medical image and video processing, machine\/deep learning, and data analysis. VAMPIRE software is in use in clinical research in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n

Professor Ewan Pearson<\/strong><\/p>\n

Professor Ewan Pearson <\/strong>is Professor in Diabetic Medicine. His research interests are the phenotypic and genotypic determinants of drug response, the aetiology of young-onset diabetes, and the mechanisms driving the progression of diabetes. He leads the IMI-DIRECT project on stratification in Type 2 diabetes and is a co-lead on the\u00a0 MRC funded MASTERMIND project and holds a Wellcome Trust New Investigator award to investigate drug response in Type 2 diabetes.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n
