{"id":1270,"date":"2016-05-18T06:11:41","date_gmt":"2016-05-18T06:11:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ukm.my\/ylmc\/?page_id=1270"},"modified":"2016-05-20T03:09:09","modified_gmt":"2016-05-20T03:09:09","slug":"summary-of-the-project","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/ylmc\/?page_id=1270","title":{"rendered":"SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8216;Your Language My Culture&#8217; is the name of a five-year supplementary reading programme in English specially prepared for use in all secondary schools in Terengganu, scheduled to start in January 2016.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">The focus is on cultural enrichment through readings on local culture and through inter-disciplinary readings across textbooks.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">The objectives are three-fold :<\/h3>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>\n<h3>to provide local content (local knowledge, culture, tradition, literature, history, geography, etc.) for learners to draw upon in their performance of oral and written communication in English;<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>to develop a local reading perspective while recognising western perspectives embedded in the English language;<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>to develop an understanding of the inter-relatedness and relevance of other school subjects to the way of life of ordinary Malaysians.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">For this programme to be fully implemented, three units of researchers have to work in tandem :<\/h3>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>\n<h3>UNIT 1 (Material Development) is tasked with the writing and publication of teachers&#8217; handbooks and students&#8217; workbooks;<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>UNIT 2 (Research) is to conduct pilot and trace studies in selected schools and use data obtained as a basis for programme evaluation;<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>UNIT 3 (Training of Trainers\/Teachers) is responsible for guiding trainers to use the teaching methodology required so that they can pass on the methodology to English Language teachers.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the end of the five-year research, the main output will include the following:<\/h3>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>\n<h3>a culture-based reading programme in English for secondary schools;<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>a publication of students&#8217; workbooks and accompanying handbooks for English language teachers;<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>a training programme for trainers to pass on mission and method to English Language teachers;<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>an evaluative procedure to measure effectiveness of similar reading programmes.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">The whole project is jointly funded by Yayasan Di Raja Sultan Mizan (YDSM) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) dengan kerjasama Jabatan Pelajaran Negeri Terengganu (JPNT).<\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;Your Language My Culture&#8217; is the name of a five-year supplementary reading programme in English specially prepared for use in all secondary schools in Terengganu,<a class=\"ut-readmore\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/ylmc\/?page_id=1270\"> &#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"templates\/page-one-column.php","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-1270","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/ylmc\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/1270","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/ylmc\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/ylmc\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/ylmc\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/ylmc\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1270"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/ylmc\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/1270\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1287,"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/ylmc\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/1270\/revisions\/1287"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ukm.my\/ylmc\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1270"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
