The Malaysian Mangrove Research Alliance & Network (MyMangrove) celebrates the fifth International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystems, and the third anniversary of the establishment of MyMangrove on 26th July 2020.

To commemorate the day, MyMangrove, with the support from the Commonwealth Human Ecology Council (CHEC), initiates and embarks on a long-term close collaboration with various local communities and organisations to rehabilitate mangroves and to increase scientific awareness on the importance of mangroves and mangrove conservation. Network and alliance with more Community-Based Organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations as well as Government and Corporate Organisations will be continuously extended in the future. The current sponsorship by CHEC is also aimed at commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Commonwealth. Thank you CHEC and thank you all community members for participating in this celebration!

On 26th July 2020, MyMangrove will participate in the national-level celebration of the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystems, organised and hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia and the Perak State Government which will be held in Matang Eco-Education Forest.

In conjunction with this day also, on July 28th, MyMangrove will participate in the live webinar session organised by the Mahathir Science Award Foundation and the Academy of Sciences Malaysia. With the theme ‘People and Mangroves’, this webinar will discuss on the importance of mangroves to the well-being and livelihoods of local and global communities. The roles of mangroves as the signature habitat and the trademark ecosystem of the Tropics will also be strongly highlighted in the build up to the TropSc 2021 Conference which will be held in Kuala Lumpur approximately one year from now.

Let us all do our parts to contribute in the conservation of these valuable habitats and ecosystems. To all Malaysians and the global communities, we wish you all Happy World Mangrove Day, Happy Mangrove Action Day, and Happy Mangroving! AAA. MyMangrove. 22.7.2020.
