ABSTRAK

 

Tujuan kajian ini ialah untuk menentukan kesan tanah amang ke atas pembentukan mikronukleus tumbuhan kajian, Setcreasea purpurea Boom. Tiga jenis tanah amang iaitu amang belum proses (ABP), amang semi proses (ASP) dan amang lepas proses (ALP) telah diambil dari sebuah syarikat pemprosesan amang di Dengkil, Selangor. Kesan sitotoksik tanah amang dibandingkan dengan tanah kawalan yang diperolehi dari Rumah Tumbuhan, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Analisis radiometrik menunjukkan tanah amang mengandungi unsur radioaktif tabii. Hasil ujian mikronukleus (MCN) ke atas sel tetrad induk debunga S. purpurea menunjukkan kesemua tanah amang mengaruh pembentukan mikronukleus dalam sel tersebut. Bilangan MCN per-tetrad semakin meningkat apabila masa perlakuan dilanjutkan. Kajian ini juga menunjukkan kepekaan tumbuhan S. purpurea sebagai penunjuk biologi bagi tanah amang.

 

ABSTRACT

 

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of amang soils on the micronucleus formation in Setcreasea purpurea Boom. Three types of amang, namely unprocessed amang (ABP), semi-processed amang (ASP) and processed amang (ALP) were obtained from an amang processing plant in Dengkil, Selangor. The cytotoxic effects of amang soils were compared with the control soil from the green house at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Radiometric analysis on amang soils revealed the presence of natural radioactive materials. The results of micronucleus tests on tetrads of pollen mother cells showed that amang soil induced the formation of micronuclei in these cells. It was observed that the number of micronuclei per-tetrad increased with duration of treatment. This study also demonstrated the sensitivity of S. purpurea as bioindicator for amang soil.
