Physics-Thin Films, Energy, Computational physics

Born in 1947 in Bukit Mertajam, Penang. Graduated with a Ph.D from Monash University, Australia in 1979. Appointed Lecturer, Dept. of Physics, UKM in August 1973; Associate Professor, Dept of Physics, UKM in January 1983; and Professor since July 1994. Invited as a Fulbright-Hays Visiting Scientist at the Brown University , USA during 1985,Visiting scientist to KFA , Julich,Germany (1985) , University of Reading (1993), Loughborough University of Technology(1995), Warwick(1995) , Kyoto University (1995) and appointed Deputy Dean, Faculty of Physical and Applied Sciences , UKM from July 1986 to October 1994. Appointed Deputy Dean, Centre of Postgraduate Studies UKM since July 1, 1994.

Area of expertise: Solid State Physics,Energy and Thin Films. Current research interests include preparation and characterization of thin films for electronic devices and energy conversion, LB Films; Solid Ionics; Computational Physics. Has published more than 80 publications that appear in international and local scientific journals. Edited several books that include Recent Advances in Thin Films (1993), Material Science and Natural Resources (1991) and Solid Ionics (1992). Authored Mechanics, Electricity, Thermal Physics, Modern Physics, Solid State Physics, Magnetisms, Quantum Mechanics in 1996.

Member of Advanced Materials Council -MPKSN (1993-Now); currently, Chairman, Intervarsity Physics Terminology Committee, Sub-Committee on the Terminology of Philosophy of Science; Technical Advisory Committee, MPM; Fellow, Malaysian Institute of Physics (1980-now); President, Malaysian Solid State Science and Technology Society (1993-now).

Associate member to ICTP (1980-1995) , Chairman International Conference on Teaching Aids in Physics Education (1981); International Workshop in Solid Ionics (1993), Asian Conference on Solid Ionics (1994). Participated as an associate member of The Language Council of Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam on the scientific terminology sessions in Jakarta (March `91); Brunei (June '91); Kuala Lumpur (Sept '91); Brunei (Nov '91); Jakarta (May '92) . Member, Malaysian delegation to the energy expert meeting (October 1993).; member, Council of The Asian Solid State Ionics Society (1991-now)

In 1993 awarded the Kesatria Mangku Negara (KMN) by the Yang Di Pertuan Agong. Married to Norhana Md.Nor and Blessed with five children.
