Program STEM untuk Semua (Professor @School)
December 4, 2024 – The CESPRO, Faculty of Engineering & Built Environment at UKM, hosted an inspiring event titled “Program STEM untuk Semua (Professor @School).” This event aimed to engage students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor, in innovative STEM activities.
During the event, the 3DP STEAMulation Programme introduced the “3DP STEAMulation Community Challenge.” This challenge encouraged students to design and 3D print an assistive tool for individuals with palsy syndrome, who have difficulty holding a cup properly. The goal was to create a practical solution that could significantly improve the daily lives of those with this condition.
The event featured several key activities:
- Introduction to 3D Printing: Students were given a comprehensive overview of 3D printing technology, including its applications and potential to solve real-world problems.
- Design Thinking Workshop: Participants engaged in a hands-on workshop where they learned about the design thinking process, from identifying a problem to brainstorming and prototyping solutions.
- Team Collaboration: Students worked in teams to develop their ideas, fostering collaboration and teamwork.
- Mentorship: Experienced mentors, including PM Ts. Dr. Mohd Shaiful Sajab, guided the students through the challenge, providing insights and feedback on their designs.
- Presentation and Feedback: Each team presented their final designs, explaining the thought process and functionality of their assistive tools. The presentations were followed by constructive feedback from the mentors.
The event not only aimed to address a specific need within the community but also to inspire students to pursue STEM fields by demonstrating the tangible impact of engineering and technology. By participating in this challenge, students gained valuable skills in problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork, all while contributing to a meaningful cause.
