BANGI, 30 June 2025 – The Seminar on Scholars of Islamic Civilization 2025 brought together academics, researchers, and institutional representatives from various countries to discuss the contributions of Muslim scholars to Islamic civilization.
The seminar served as a platform for scholarly dialogue on the historical and intellectual legacy of Islamic scholars from the region, highlighting their influence in diverse fields such as theology, jurisprudence, science, and education.
According to the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Industry and Community Partnerships Affairs, Prof. Ts. Dr. Faizal Mohamed, the partnership between Malaysia and Uzbekistan in this area has spanned more than 12 years.
“Throughout this collaboration, numerous successful programmes and academic initiatives have been undertaken. Notably, four research fellows from the Institute of Islam Hadhari have completed consecutive research attachments at the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Centre in Samarkand.
“These research visits have not only enriched scholarly exchange but also contributed to valuable academic output and further strengthened institutional ties between both parties,” he said.
Prof. Faizal also expressed hope that the seminar would continue to inspire efforts in preserving Islamic scholarly heritage.
“This gathering has not only provided a valuable platform to reflect on and honour the great contributions of Muslim scholars to Islamic civilization, but it has also reminded us of our shared responsibility to preserve and carry forward this legacy in today’s changing world,” he added.
Now in its fifth edition, the seminar is the result of a long-standing academic collaboration between the Institute of Islam Hadhari, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and several key institutions from Uzbekistan.
These include the Center for Islamic Civilization, the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center, the Imam Maturidi International Scientific Research Center, the Imam Termizi International Scientific Research Center, the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan, the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, the Higher School for Hadith Science, and the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Malaysia.
