The need for repair or regeneration of airway rise due to either disease like cancer, or trauma to airways. CTERM have embarked in airway bioengineering to regenerate airway mucosa, to develop airway epithelium (AE) in vitro model of normal and diseased individuals for drug testing purposes, and to investigate various cellular and acellular therapies towards wound healing of AE. AE lines the tissue from nasal cavity up to lungs. Both natural and synthetic biomaterials are used as scaffolds in construction of the airway mucosa, in vitro model and also to develop nasal packing and fillers for laryngeal stenosis. Various natural compounds, biologics and cells are being considered for the cellular and acellular therapies.
