SCIENCE EXPLORATION PROGRAM 2026: “HEALTHY MIND, POSITIVE VIBES: UNRAVELLING THE SECRETS OF THE ADOLESCENT BRAIN”
Organised by the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in collaboration with the Secretariat for Industry and Community Engagement (HEJIM), the programme brought together 42 Form 4 and Form 5 students from SMK Seri Permaisuri, Kuala Lumpur, accompanied by their teachers, at the Pre-Clinical Building, UKM Kuala Lumpur Campus.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Prof. Dr. Norazlina Mohamed, Deputy Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Faculty of Medicine, UKM. This year, participants explored the functions of the adolescent brain and its relationship with lifestyle, emotions, and mental health through a variety of interactive STEM activities.
By integrating physiology with issues relevant to adolescents’ everyday lives, the programme provided participants with an opportunity to understand brain function, factors influencing mental well-being, and the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle. The hands-on and interactive activities also allowed students to explore science beyond the classroom while fostering curiosity and interest in STEM fields.
The programme also featured a special talk entitled “Lifestyle & Adolescent Mental Health”, delivered by Prof. Dr. Noor Azimah Mohd. Aziz from the Department of Family Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, UKM.
The programme was successfully conducted with the support and contributions of various organisations and individuals, including Qasehdiani Enterprise, Kimi Enterprise, TML Lab Sdn. Bhd., Innowawasan Sdn. Bhd., Teepham Medical Sdn. Bhd., Labquib (M) Sdn. Bhd., Ridge Biomed Sdn. Bhd., Jament’s Advertising, HEJIM, and the UKM community.
MINI GRADUATE SYMPOSIUM 5.0
The Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), successfully organised the Mini Graduate Symposium 5.0, an academic platform that brought together postgraduate students to present the progress and findings of their respective research projects. The symposium was held at the SINAPS Meeting Room, Department of Physiology.
Through dynamic presentation sessions and interactive discussions with a panel of academic staff, the programme provided students with valuable opportunities to enhance their scientific communication skills, receive constructive feedback, and strengthen their understanding of their respective research areas.
COLD CHAIN EQUIPMENT & TEMPERATURE MONITORING WORKSHOP
The Department of Physiology, in collaboration with Ridge Biomed Sdn. Bhd., successfully organised the Cold Chain Equipment & Temperature Monitoring Workshop on 24 April 2026 at the SINAPS Meeting Room, Department of Physiology.
The workshop was attended by 25 participants from the Faculty of Medicine, UKM, and HCTM.
Our sincere appreciation goes to Ridge Biomed Sdn. Bhd. and all participants for their valuable support and contributions towards the success of the workshop.

Nur Athirah Othman Basri - Travel Grant Award Recipient
Congratulations to Nur Athirah Othman Basri on receiving the Travel Grant Award to present her research at the 103rd Annual Meeting of the Physiological Society of Japan (PSJ 2026) in Tokyo, Japan.
She is a PhD student under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Azizah Ugusman (main supervisor), Associate Professor Dr. Amilia Aminuddin, and Dr. Adila A. Hamid (co-supervisors).
