ABSTRACT

Nowadays, Malay language in Malaysia is seen as less alive and been scaled down by its own race. The proof of discrediting the language can be seen particularly at Private Institutions of Higher Learning (IPTS) where English language is being upheld than the Malay language. While, the Public Institutions of Higher Learning (IPTA) also seem likely tend to espouse the English language when the Teaching and Learning (T&L) sessions were required to be held in it. Therefore, a few questions arise on the fate and the survival of the Malay language on its own land if the intellectual institutions start deserting it. Can the language which once forged glory in the era of Malacca Sultanates compete on the international plane? Hence, this article will delve thoroughly and comprehensively on the subject matter. However, this writing does not mean to deny the reality of the need to acquire knowledge through the English language, but at the same time, upholding the Malay language and strengthening the English language stays as an ultimatum.
