Abstract

Malaysia being one of the energy producer countries requires sustainable energy policy and planning to manage its natural resources for its people and the future generations. This paper presents early results on the optimization of the crude oil system using linear programming by considering several conversion transformation and production processes and demand for petroleum products. The model starts by building the crude oil system which is linked to the economic sectors such as transportation, agriculture, domestic, industry and non energy. Among the constraints considered are the material balance for all petroleum products, the capacity of the refineries and energy resources reserves. Initial optimization shows that the model performs quite promising when minimizing the imports of petroleum products.
