Abstract

This study presents a bibliometric analysis of food product labeling research spanning 52 years (1972–2024), using data from the Scopus database. The objective is to identify the most influential factors within the model, key thematic trends, prolific authors, leading institutions, and contributing countries. Using VOSviewer, the analysis mapped co occurrence networks, citation patterns, and keyword clusters to uncover the intellectual structure of food labeling research. Key themes center on sustainable consumer behavior and food systems, emphasizing environmental awareness, green product preferences, and circular economy concepts. Economic and psychological factors, such as willingness to pay and behavioral experiments, provide insights into green purchasing decisions. Another major cluster highlights the integration of technology in food systems, including blockchain, food traceability, and machine learning, to enhance transparency and consumer trust. Health, nutrition, and policy also emerge as significant themes that link sustainability to public well-being and governance. Despite substantial growth in research, gaps remain in smart labeling technologies, digital information systems, and culturally adaptive labeling in non-Western contexts. These areas present opportunities for future interdisciplinary exploration. The findings provide practical implications for researchers, policymakers, and industry stakeholders in refining frameworks, regulations, and consumer-centered labeling strategies.

Keywords
