Abstract

This paper outlines a framework to conceptualize the predictors of entrepreneural chouce and success among the Malays. The approach is behavioral, viewed from individual dispositions and situational or contigency perpspectives. From the view that behaviour stems from individual dispose trons, the Malay value system related to their belief in capitalism, represents the main baseline to ceonceptualize relevant socio-psychologucal variables. One other aspect of socio-psychological behaviour which is contigent upon the environment, draws from the importance of job satisfaction in delineating such behaviour. Predictors of entrepreneurial choice and success are conceptualized around perceived job satisfaction with business as an occupation. Finally, economic predictors are examined which include among others, the ability to assume risks, perception and evalution of rewards, and the support system from the government and other related sectors.
