Abstract

The aim of the study is to understand the networking behavior of male and female entrepreneurs in the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia, specifically in Kedah and Perlis. In particular, the study compares the personal networks of rural male and female entrepreneurs regarding networking size, intensity, density, and diversity as well as their background. Based on a sample of 361 entrepreneurs (227 males and 134 females), the results showed significant differences in their networking size, intensity, and diversity. There were few differences in background between male and female entrepreneurs. In general, the women were new in business. However, both male and female entrepreneurs utilised their personal and social networks for their business purposes. Finally, the importance of entrepreneurs’ personal network in supporting business activities is discussed.
