Focus Group Discussion at PPL

Langkawi Research Centre (PPL) hosted a Focus Group Discussion on 1st November 2022, between a research group from the Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI) and relevant stakeholders at Langkawi. The goal of this discussion was to obtain expert opinions on the operation of Malaysia’s fishing fleets, the types of vessel ownership and access arrangements currently in place, and the scope and scale of foreign beneficial ownership within the EEZs.  This research work is funded by Oceana and led by Dr. Lubna Alam under the Ocean Malaysia initiative of LESTARI. The discussion was officiated by the Deputy Director and co-researcher of the project Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sharina Abdul Halim. 36 people representing a wide range of government and non-government organisations participated in the discussion. The discussion took place in four different groups moderated by Associate Professor Dr. Sharina Abdul Halim, Dr. Lubna Alam, Dr. Rospidah Ghazali, and Ts. Dr. Lim Chen Kim.
