WEBINAR FOR PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (PPD) COURSE 2026 FOR THE CLINICAL MASTER PROGRAMME

On 24 January 2026, the Secretariat of Postgraduate Studies successfully organised the Webinar for Personal and Professional Development (PPD) Course 2026 for the Clinical Master Programme. Held online, the webinar brought together experts in the field to share insights on medico-legal issues relevant to future medical specialists.
The session began with a welcome address and briefing on the Personal and Professional Development (PPD) course, delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rabani Remli, the PPD Course Coordinator. The webinar was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mawaddah Azman and Dr. Nurwahyuna Rosli. Carrying the theme “Bridging Medicine and Law: Medicolegal Essentials for Future Specialists,” the webinar highlighted the importance of understanding legal responsibilities and professional conduct in medical practice.
The programme featured several distinguished speakers who shared their expertise on key medico-legal topics. Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Hassan Haji Mohamed Ariff, President of the Medico-Legal Society of Malaysia, delivered a talk on the Landscape of Medicolegal Litigation in Malaysia, providing participants with valuable insights into current legal challenges faced by medical practitioners. The session continued with Dr. Hafizah Zainal Abidin, Medical Lecturer and Emergency Medicine Specialist from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), who presented on Duty of Care and the Rights of Medical Specialists, highlighting the ethical and legal responsibilities of healthcare professionals.
The webinar continued with the topic “What to Do if You Are Involved in Medicolegal Cases”, presented by Dr. Kaema Nadarajan, Country Manager, Medical Protection Society Malaysia, and Ms. Sharmini Ganasegaran, Assistant Vice President, Lockton Consulting, Medical Protection Society.The webinar served as an important platform for postgraduate students, particularly those in the Clinical Master Programme, to gain a deeper understanding of medico-legal aspects in healthcare. Through expert sharing and discussions, participants were able to enhance their awareness of professional responsibilities and legal considerations in clinical practice.
Overall, the webinar reflects the Faculty of Medicine UKM’s commitment to strengthening professional competence, ethical practice and legal awareness among future medical specialists.
