MetaSkool Digital IPI Pilot Empowers Islamic Education Through Metaverse Learning

20–21 May 2026 — The MetaSkool team successfully conducted the MetaSkool @ Digital IPI (Institusi Pendidikan Islam) pilot training programme, bringing immersive metaverse learning experiences to teachers and students from Institut Ahmad Ibni (SAIFI) and Sekolah Tinggi Islam As-Sofa.
Digital IPI is a pilot initiative led by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) in collaboration with the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM), aimed at accelerating the digital transformation of sekolah pondok and Islamic educational institutions across Malaysia.
As MDEC’s strategic partner, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) co-developed the MetaSkool programme together with MDEC, including the Metaverse Learning Framework designed to support innovative and immersive teaching and learning practices.
Throughout the two-day programme, participants explored how metaverse technologies can be integrated into education to create engaging, interactive, and meaningful learning experiences. The training introduced educators and students to immersive digital environments, demonstrating how emerging technologies can complement Islamic education while preparing learners for the future digital landscape.
Beyond technology, the programme highlighted a broader mission—to ensure that access to digital education reaches every community, including traditional Islamic learning institutions. The enthusiasm shown by participants reflected the growing readiness of educators to embrace digital transformation when given the opportunity.
One of the most memorable moments came from an ustaz who shared:
“Tidak pernah terbayang Sekolah Tahfiz akan belajar perkara seperti ini, pembelajaran digital dengan metaverse. Memang tidak terjangkau. Terima kasih kerana berikan kami peluang ini.”
His words serve as a powerful reminder that while the digital divide remains a significant challenge, the potential for transformation is equally great. By equipping educators and students with future-ready digital skills, initiatives such as MetaSkool Digital IPI demonstrate that innovative learning should be accessible to all, regardless of educational background.
